Pink Tutu Time Travel Blog: Post #921 - A Grand Tour of the French Court (1737)

Bonjour mes chères lectrices! Emma here, your friendly neighbourhood ballerina with a penchant for pink and a passion for time travel! Today, we’re jetting off to the glittering halls of the French Court in 1737. Buckle up, darlings, it’s going to be a ballet-tastic journey!

Remember, every time I travel, I take Magic Meg with me – my trusty pink shire horse with a sprinkle of magic, a golden mane and hooves that gleam brighter than a thousand twinkling stars. (He really does make the time travel much more glamorous!)

Today’s adventure, though, was particularly thrilling! It seems like there was an incredible performance at the Palais Royal, a breathtaking showcase of French ballet. It’s truly an honour to step into the shoes (or rather, the toe shoes!) of those graceful dancers and share in their world of elegance and artistic expression.

Now, let me tell you about this ballet. It was a performance of Les Fêtes Chinoises (The Chinese Festivals), composed by Jean-Philippe Rameau – a real Parisian sensation, you know. This was a story in two acts, all about the magical festivals of China, filled with breathtaking scenery and captivating dancing. My imagination ran wild as I pictured dancers swirling and leaping across the stage, showcasing the exquisite choreography that has become synonymous with French ballet. I couldn’t resist grabbing a few snippets of information about Rameau and the production for my special ballet history scrapbook – tucked safely in my leather rucksack, of course.

And the outfits, darling! Absolutely exquisite. It appears that dancers at the time wore costumes lavishly embroidered, bedecked in glittering sequins, and perfectly showcasing their elegant figures. I could just picture their silken skirts flowing as they pirouetted, the delicate movements framed by these breathtaking garments. Naturally, I have some sketches of these outfits safely tucked in my rucksack for my Pink Tutu Designs collection – the future of ballet fashion!

As you know, I am an avid lover of the history of ballet. 1737 was a crucial time in French ballet; the court of King Louis XV was considered the epitome of elegance, setting the stage for the entire European continent. The king himself was a big fan of ballet, and the Palace Royal became a theatre for grand, elegant, and breathtaking productions that cemented the place of ballet in high society. I love that this time period birthed so much artistic innovation. What’s better than enjoying beautiful choreography while looking fabulous?

Speaking of looking fabulous… Have I ever told you how I’m on a mission to have everyone wearing a pink tutu? It’s true, darling! Every journey, every ballet I see, further cements this conviction in me. It's not just about a garment – it’s a symbol of femininity, confidence, and pure, unadulterated joy! Think of how much joy a splash of pink can bring to a day – wouldn't a whole world dressed in pink tutus just radiate happy energy?

Now, if you’ll excuse me, darlings, Magic Meg is pawing impatiently – we’ve got another historical performance to catch! I have my eye on a particular ballerina from the time of Anna Pavlova, whose beauty and artistry is legendary – I’ve been dying to see a ballet in the early 20th century! Oh, and do keep an eye out for new pink tutu designs coming to the website. And don’t forget, keep those pointe shoes ready to pirouette your way into your own ballet dream!

Until next month, my dear readers, stay fabulous!

Warmly, Emma xx
