Hello my darling tutu-lovers! Emma here, back from another incredible adventure through time. This month, we’re swirling back to 1738, June 6th, a date that’s just brimming with ballet brilliance!
Oh, and how absolutely delightful to have just returned from the stables. Magic Meg, my magnificent pink sparkling Shire horse with those golden hooves and flowing white mane and tail, is ready to gallop us right back to www.pink-tutu.com, my very own ballet time travel blog, to share another sprinkle of history and a touch of fashion!
As I mentioned, this month we’re whisked back to 1738 – think powdered wigs and silk stockings, swirling gowns and elegant bows. That's where my latest adventure took me! Just imagine a Parisian salon, all glittering chandeliers and swirling whispers of silks, and oh, a charming gentleman asking for the pleasure of a dance – simply delightful! And for me, of course, the joy of exploring the world of ballet through these magnificent, historic moments!
But before we dive into that magical world, let’s chat about my most recent show! It was such a pleasure to be on the stage at The Playhouse in Derbyshire, with our vibrant performance of a whimsical ballet I choreographed myself – inspired by my latest trip through time! The costumes, oh my! Pink tutus, naturally – but with shimmering fabrics and intricate beading. Every detail so meticulously chosen – to capture that 18th-century grace we're about to explore.
Our performances, of course, not only delight the crowds but also help fund my thrilling trips back through time! Just imagine – ballet bringing us all together and letting me uncover history's hidden treasures, from shimmering jewels to precious dance routines – it's just the most divine, graceful loop.
So, to all you dance devotees, my fabulous pink tutu friends – let's dive right in! Grab your favourite beverage and maybe a little slice of cake because we're about to whisk you away on another exhilarating journey through history!
Stepping Back Into 1738:
Now, back to that 1738 world - oh, such a wonderful year for ballet! And what's even more exciting, I was lucky enough to catch a show at the famed Royal Academy of Music. I slipped into my most glamorous, pink tutu and danced along with the Parisian audiences, feeling as if I had just stepped out of a picture – all silks, jewels, and beautiful movements!
Parisian ballet scenes, oh, the grace, the artistry, it took my breath away! It was like stepping into a delicate pastel world – but with more sparkle!
At the Academy, ballet was more than just movement. It was an elegant storytelling through graceful postures. My oh my! We’re talking gentle pirouettes, delicate jumps, and expressive gestures! You can tell those graceful dancers just lived for the moment, just like me, darling! They expressed a story of love and beauty - that’s the real essence of ballet, wouldn’t you agree?
Oh, and how could I forget those tutus? A blend of history and glamour! My own delicate pink, perfectly puffed and fluffy tutu was just as stunning! As I walked among the Parisian crowds, with its vibrant shade against the elegant pastels of 1738 - I felt right at home! It made my heart sing! The era’s elegant costumes are pure magic and an absolute inspiration – a blend of elegance, history, and, yes, a pinch of modern sass, too! It’s not just fashion; it's a way of life, a celebration of artistry!
Of course, with a beautiful vintage costume I needed to explore the fashion of the era, didn’t I? I stepped into the most wonderful silk shop on the Champs-Élysées! The scent of silks was pure heaven. Can you imagine – intricate fabrics with sparkling embellishments! Each piece a story of its own, and a true delight for the eyes!
Oh, the shops on the Rue Saint-Honoré were buzzing with artisans showcasing their craftsmanship! Imagine lace and frills and a rainbow of colours – what an amazing experience, especially for a girl who adores pretty things and has a heart that always leans toward a shade of pink!
So, now that we have a peek at that charming world, let me delve into those wonderful historical snippets that I’ve collected in my trusty, brown leather backpack:
Ballet in the Heart of Europe
The Royal Academy of Music wasn't just a ballet studio. It was a place where artistry bloomed! The dancers, in their beautiful, pastel-toned silks and those majestic powdered wigs, took my breath away. Their art – graceful and poignant - took hold of everyone in the audience! There was something magical, a sense of elegance that captivated everyone in the salon. Just like in modern times, when everyone falls silent to witness a dance that tells a powerful tale, or when we are all awed by an exquisite performance of “Swan Lake,” these 1738 performances left everyone enthralled and filled with admiration for the dancers and their passion!
A Passion for the Ballet:
It was not just Paris, however, where ballet found its flourishing heart in 1738. Ballet performances travelled across Europe, gracing the stages of Vienna, Berlin, and London! Every step in every dance captured the spirit of its age. In Vienna, there was a playful energy, while in London it was a world of more graceful movement. It was amazing to witness this wonderful variety!
Just imagine – watching those dancers in their fine silk shoes and elegant wigs, weaving their stories through intricate steps and graceful gestures! They captured the spirit of their time – the artistry, the social charm, and that European sense of beauty. And here I was, amidst the most glorious tutu to have ever seen – mine! My pink tutu! Oh, how I adored this trip! It was the best journey yet, and just made my soul dance!
As I wander the cobbles of 1738 Paris, the gentle whisper of silks, the clink of silverware in fancy cafés all around me – I truly feel like I've stepped into a world straight from a painting, an elegant painting with a pink tutu thrown in!
Well, I am off to the stable now, to snuggle into my comfy saddle on Magic Meg. Our next stop is in 1745, London, and I cannot wait for what adventures await us, darlings! Do join me again in July – let’s explore some more sparkling ballet moments from this wondrous time travel journey, and how ballet and fashion always seem to go hand in hand!
As always, love you all from my heart to your shoes – or should I say tutus? Until next time, my dancing sweethearts!
Much love,
Emma
