Hello, darling dears! Welcome back to my little corner of the internet, Pink-Tutu.com! This month's journey takes us back to a rather splendid date: the 10th of October, 1739! Oh, the excitement!
I, Emma, your resident time-traveling ballerina, am feeling ever so bubbly this month! Why, you ask? Because we're hopping on the back of Magic Meg, my stunning pink shimmering Shire with those gorgeous golden hooves and fluffy white mane, for a ballet adventure, naturally! As usual, my trusty pink leather rucksack is ready to gather ballet memories, treasures and the latest on all things tutu-licious from the past.
We've already set off, and oh my, just look at the incredible outfits we are seeing as we flit through the streets of 18th century London! We are practically waltzing alongside those dazzling court ladies, their skirts swishing as they stroll with elegance and grace! It truly makes me wish we still had that grand level of etiquette nowadays. Now, where was I? Oh yes, today’s blog post!
This time around, my love for all things ballet led me to 10th October 1739. It's a special date for the history of ballet! Why, you might ask? Well, dear reader, because on this very date, the young dancer, Marie Sallé, debuted her ground-breaking ballet, "Pygmalion"!
Let me tell you, I absolutely adore Marie Sallé. She was a trailblazer, pushing the boundaries of ballet. Gone were the heavy costumes of the French court; Marie, in a light and airy white dress, with simple slippers for footwear, showed us that movement and storytelling were the true heart of ballet!
Can you imagine, darling? No stiff corsets, just a graceful figure adorned in soft white linen. I have a sneaking suspicion that she inspired the rise of ballet in England – those elegant steps and the expressive storytelling were certainly the start of a new era! I simply must find myself a replica of her simple costume for my next performance, don’t you agree?
You see, darling dears, ballet isn't just a dance; it's an art form. A magical story that flows through beautiful movement. Imagine telling a whole story with just your body and emotions, so beautiful, so raw, it's no wonder I'm drawn to it.
So, back to our journey, Magic Meg is galloping through the cobbled streets, and oh, those charming carriages, just like in those fine ballet productions – think “Giselle” – all romantic and whimsical! We must hop on one soon to truly immerse ourselves in this charming period!
Oh, and have I told you about the fashion in London right now? The ladies, they're a picture of refined beauty with those stunningly crafted silk gowns, bonnets, and hats, all adorned with feathers and pearls! My little heart swoons. I simply must pick up some fabric from one of the local merchants for a new tutu, I know you’ll all love it when I get it! I'm starting to think I need to have my own workshop soon, creating custom tutus inspired by all the time periods I visit!
As I gather the memories, I keep thinking about how beautiful the world of ballet truly is! Even when I’m far, far away in the past, the feeling of movement and music is so strong! My heart simply beats a little faster when I think of pirouettes and graceful arabesques, and imagine myself pirouetting under a chandelier like the elegant ladies in my 18th century ballet pictures. Isn’t it wonderful?
Well, it’s time for me to catch up on the ballet news! My goodness, have you seen all those wonderful premieres that have popped up around the world? It's thrilling, just thrilling! The Paris Opera Ballet always does a fantastic job, as do all those dazzling stars in Russia, and oh my, we just mustn't forget the Royal Ballet!
Oh, but darling dears, my time in 1739 is coming to a close, as swiftly as the last twirl of a ballet finale! Magic Meg will soon be transporting us back to my little Derbyshire cottage. My heart, however, is still swirling with excitement, just like a grand finale of a breathtaking ballet.
Now, I know I promised a new tutu update soon, and oh my, it's almost ready! We can hardly wait for its debut on my website!
So, until next time, darling dears, don't forget to wear pink and twirl with your whole heart! Remember, ballet is for everyone, everywhere! Remember to stay stylish, graceful, and, above all, oh, so very, very pink!
Until next month, Emma xx
