Welcome back to Pink Tutu Travels, darlings! This month's adventure takes us right back to 1745, the year that history truly took a dramatic pirouette! This blog post is all about exploring the fascinating world of ballet during this turbulent period and how, as always, our dear old friend fashion plays a starring role! So buckle up, grab your tiaras, and get ready to time travel with me to the glorious world of the 18th Century!
(Post number 1010 on www.pink-tutu.com! Do check out my other posts โ they're a hoot)
As always, I hopped aboard my gorgeous Magic Meg. She's a stunning pink Shire horse, all sparkly mane and tail, gleaming golden hooves, and a touch of magic in her eyes! And trust me, it's the only way to travel through time!
(I must mention that my pink tutu always seems to be super comfortable for these travels, don't you agree, darlings?)
This time, I wanted to get closer to royalty. I just had a feeling that on February 2nd, 1745, the dance would be exquisite! And so we landed ourselves right in the middle of the royal court at Versailles!
(Yes, the fabulous Palace of Versailles! You know, where Louis XIV used to rule? So exciting!)
Fashion Focus: Oh my, darling! Versailles is truly a treasure trove for a ballet fan! Imagine... flowing silks and satin, delicately embroidered with gold and silver, adorned with jewels! They loved their bows and frills, their ruffles and lace, and naturally, powdered wigs (who could forget the powder)! I actually found some super cute lace ruffles and ribbon to adorn my tutu โ it looks simply smashing!
The King's Delight: Ballet De Cour
Now, in 1745, ballet wasn't quite what it is today. It was more like a theatrical spectacle, known as "ballet de cour," where the royals and nobility themselves participated in graceful and intricate movements! Fancy that, eh?
A little bit of History:
This date in 1745 saw a ballet performance, possibly "La Princesse de Navarre," staged for King Louis XV himself. Imagine him, the absolute monarch of France, standing amongst his court, witnessing a dramatic performance. Now, if that doesn't scream "fashion icon" to you, I don't know what does!
(Oh, and the most interesting fact I discovered - Louis XV's favourite dancer was called Mademoiselle Camargo! Isn't that adorable?
The Ballerinas of the Day:
My oh my! They wore some spectacular attire โ long, flowing gowns in soft pastel shades with matching lace bodices. Delicate silk slippers with jeweled buckles graced their feet. And the hair! So much powder, it looked like clouds of powdered sugar!
(I must admit, even I was tempted to get my hair powdered! But it does seem a little...well, dusty, if you catch my drift!
Back in time, Back in Derbyshire!
Well, after exploring the opulent world of ballet at Versailles, it was time to return home! It felt surreal to hop back on Magic Meg and be whisked back to the crisp, fresh air of my little corner of Derbyshire, England! I simply love the contrast of these two worlds!
(Back home, my ballet class awaits! Nothing like a good, strong barre session to shake off the jet lag of time travel!
My Pink Tutu Travels Mission
And here I am back in my cosy corner of the internet, my pink tutu twirling with excitement after this fantastic time-travelling experience. As always, my mission, my dear friends, remains to get everyone wearing a pink tutu!
(It might seem like a frivolous thing to you, darling, but a little touch of pink in this world is truly transformative, you know? So, spread the pink! Spread the tutus! Let's bring a little sparkle to everyone's life!
