Pink Tutu Time Travel: February 2nd, 1746! 🩰

Hello darling dancers and welcome to Pink Tutu Time Travels! This month's post is extra special - we're twirling back to February 2nd, 1746, a time brimming with intrigue and excitement!

It's me, Emma, your pink-tutu-clad time traveller, ready to share another whirlwind adventure. Remember, we're on a mission to inspire the world to embrace the joy and elegance of the pink tutu! 💕

A Whirlwind Journey with Magic Meg:

This month, I packed my trusty leather rucksack with a healthy dose of anticipation and enough pink tulle to wrap the entire world! Magic Meg, my dazzling pink shire horse with her shimmering mane and golden hooves, was pawing the ground with excitement - she knows that history's always full of fabulous fashion.

We left our cosy stable in Derbyshire just before sunrise, the sky ablaze with shades of rose and lavender, just like my tutu! Our journey to 1746 took us through shimmering fields, sparkling rivers, and sleepy villages. The air buzzed with whispers of the past, the rustling of forgotten silks, the strains of unheard melodies.

Fashion of the Day: Embracing Elegance in 1746:

As we stepped into the year 1746, a wave of intricate detail swept over me. I gasped at the sight of ladies in elegant hoop skirts and bodices, adorned with delicate lace and ruffles. Gentlemen wore their powdered wigs with an air of dashing swagger, while gentlemen and ladies alike embraced silk, velvet, and a touch of lace for that extra touch of flair.

But darling, I’m afraid the pink tutu wasn’t exactly the norm back then. The 1740s saw ladies embracing bold colours, lush textures and structured silhouettes, all about that grand ballroom and tea party elegance. A pink tutu would definitely have stood out, let’s just say it!

A Glimpse at 18th-Century Ballet:

February 2nd, 1746, marked a quiet day in the world of ballet. The Parisian Ballet was beginning to bloom, its dancers evolving from stately court entertainers to artistic visionaries, pioneering graceful movement. Yet, there were still many years of development before the full evolution of ballet into what we know and adore today.

But hold on, darling! Just because there weren't tutus galore, doesn't mean there wasn’t exciting ballet history in the making. We are talking about the dawn of ballet, and I can tell you from my experiences that even the smallest of changes can have massive consequences down the road. Just imagine the steps that were taken by early ballet pioneers that set the scene for choreographers, dancers, and musicians of today.

My Time Capsule Collection: 1746 treasures

This month I managed to get my hands on a beautifully illustrated, but sadly worn copy of the “Nouvelle méthode de danser,” by Raoul Auger Feuillet, considered by many to be a landmark publication of its time! Imagine that! I learned so much from it. You might have heard of the "five positions" – well they were formally recorded in this very publication, making it a treasured find for any ballet lover. This one's going straight into my rucksack, a time capsule of the incredible ballet journey, ready to share its magic back at Pink Tutu Headquarters.

My Mission: Spreading the Love for Pink Tutus

Now, I'll admit, the ladies in their elaborate costumes certainly made me want to show off my pink tutu and get the ball rolling for the Pink Tutu Revolution, but my sweet friend, that wasn't a realistic approach.

Even back then, in 1746, ballet wasn't just a style - it was about storytelling, conveying emotions, pushing boundaries. And it was clear that these passionate dancers had the world wrapped around their tiny toes! I learned that embracing creativity and daring to be bold are universal themes that have echoed through history and right into the heart of today's world.

As always, this journey inspired me with new perspectives. We may not always embrace the exact same styles, darling, but it's clear we can all connect on a deeper level with our shared passion for movement, artistry and the beautiful joy of ballet! So join me on my next journey!

Until then, twirl with grace, sparkle with style and may your days be filled with beautiful dance!
