Pink Tutu Travels: A Trip to 1748! - Post 1047

Hello darlings! It’s Emma here, your friendly neighbourhood ballerina and time traveller!

Welcome back to www.pink-tutu.com, your one-stop shop for all things pink and pirouette-tastic! This month, I’ve travelled back in time to… March 3rd, 1748!

Yes, you read that right, I donned my most fabulous pink tutu and hopped on the back of my trusty steed, Magic Meg, for a trip to the eighteenth century! Magic Meg, as you know, is a beautiful, shimmering Shire with a mane and tail like spun moonlight and hooves that sparkle with pure golden light. She absolutely loves prancing through time, especially if there’s a good ballet performance to be found.

But before I tell you about my adventures in 1748, let’s talk ballet! What’s been happening in the world of dance? Well, I’m positively over the moon because I’ve been lucky enough to attend the opening of The Royal Ballet’s new season in London. I must confess, I've got a weakness for 'Giselle' – the story of the tragic but beautiful country girl who sacrifices her own life for love. Such romanticism! The choreography was breathtaking and the costumes just exquisite, of course. I can’t resist a pretty dress – especially in pink!

Speaking of pink, how lovely is this new line of pink ballet shoes from a new boutique in Derbyshire? They’re truly heavenly and will look divine with my new pink tutu. I'm just a little obsessed with pink, as you know! The lovely thing about tutus is that they are just as elegant and fabulous on a stage in Derbyshire, as they are in a Paris theatre, or in a small country village in Italy. That’s why I try and make sure that my travel wardrobe includes a few pink tutus and other gorgeous ballet necessities – you never know where the next performance might be! Speaking of which, I need to pack my ballet shoes and pink tutu. After all, time travelling takes a lot of effort, but then again, so does ballet. It’s worth it for all those magical ballet experiences, though!

Okay, so back to 1748, my lovelies! Imagine a time when ballet was still in its relative infancy. While Italy and France were already enchanted by this art form, Britain was only just beginning to fall in love with ballet’s beauty. On this very date in 1748, the legendary Pierre Jean de Beauchamps was just 25 years old. I bet you're wondering, 'Emma, why is this important? ' Let me explain. Pierre, my darlings, was one of the pioneers of ballet as we know it! He’s the gentleman we can thank for formalising the vocabulary of ballet, a vocabulary we still use to this day! He codified the five basic ballet positions that everyone, from the beginners' class at the local studio to the professional dancers on a grand stage, learn and utilise. Talk about influencing the future! How amazing is that? And I couldn't resist bringing a lovely hand-painted pink box back with me, from 1748! It’s now pride of place on my dresser - full of the most stunning ribbons! Oh, how I love history, especially when it involves ballet!

I think I need a moment to myself, so I'm off to practice in my beautiful tutu in preparation for my next grand time travel ballet journey, until then, keep dancing, and wear pink, if you dare!

Lots of love,

Emma xoxo

The History and Fashion of 1748 – A Dance Through Time

My trip to 1748 was utterly enthralling! Stepping out of my horse-drawn carriage, I found myself surrounded by cobbled streets and bustling marketplaces. The fashion of the day, oh darling, was an absolute feast for the eyes! Ladies were adorned with elaborate gowns, beautifully embroidered bodices, and flowing skirts, complete with panniers – the wide skirts of the era, so voluminous you practically had to walk sideways to get through the crowded streets! The gentlemen of 1748 had equally distinct fashion sense. They wore powdered wigs, three-cornered hats, and fancy knee-length breeches, accompanied by stockings and ornate shoes – everything to showcase their sartorial flair. They had so much style. You could say 1748 was the heyday of stylishness and flair!

*I couldn’t resist collecting a few souvenirs on my journey. * I've found the most darling pair of tiny, satin-covered shoe buckles, just perfect for adorning a special pair of shoes, or a little pouch. They're from a fashionable dressmaker shop that was selling items of luxury for fashionable folk back in the day. You simply must look out for the fashionable lace gloves. I grabbed myself a beautiful lace scarf to match a new dress I have at home, and a few small, satin rose brooches for extra elegance. Don’t worry, I took them into my trusty leather rucksack, along with all the history tidbits that I discovered while exploring this fascinating era! I am definitely returning to this era. Maybe I’ll travel back in time to see a play, or perhaps a grand ball. Just think of all those historical treasures that await my time travelling hands!

## 1748: More Than Just Fashion – The World In 1748

You see, dear readers, time travel isn't just about fashion and dance (although, let's be honest, that is always a delight)! It's about soaking up history and discovering stories of long ago. In 1748, the world was a vastly different place. While France and Britain were at odds in the War of Austrian Succession (a war I wouldn't want to get mixed up in!). In fact, it's this year that The Treaty of Aix-la-Chapelle, ending the war, was being negotiated! What a significant year in world history! I couldn’t resist getting a tiny engraved pewter commemorative charm. What's more, I met the King of Sweden! He was visiting England this year. Isn't that fantastic? We chatted, (of course I wore my finest pink tutu - I wouldn't want to insult a royal figure! ), and we talked about his interests. He even complimented my Tutu! You’ll never guess what he liked… * Ballet! *

It is a magical feeling knowing that so many years have passed, and the art of ballet remains just as compelling and thrilling. The year 1748 is full of so many captivating historical events and I can't wait to see where I will time travel to next!

*Join me next month for more thrilling travel tales. Happy dancing, darlings!
*

*Until next time, *
