Greetings, dear fellow ballet enthusiasts! Emma here, your very own pink-tutu-clad time traveller, bringing you a glimpse into the captivating world of ballet throughout the ages! This month, I've strapped myself into my trusty saddle, with my best pink tulle fluttering in the breeze as I set off on a magnificent journey back to the year 1750.
Now, 1750! That's a particularly interesting period, folks! Ballet was starting to become its own art form, leaving behind the grandeur of the French court and beginning to take shape as something for the common people, although still firmly rooted in that elegant French style. Can you imagine! All those delicate steps and grand poses on the stage - oh, it just gets me all flustered with excitement, like a butterfly before a ballet recital!
Oh, and did I tell you about my journey to the 1750s? Magic Meg, my gorgeous pink-and-sparkly Shire, truly outdid herself this month. We had such a fun ride, dodging through fields of flowers and flitting past sparkling streams! Honestly, there’s no more glorious feeling in the whole wide world than riding through the ages on a horse as pretty as Magic Meg! My rucksack, overflowing with lace, feathers, and shimmering fabrics for the time period (did I tell you how much I love collecting old ballet paraphernalia? The scent of old leather and silk is truly intoxicating!) is ready to soak up all the wonders of the 1750s.
So, what was going on in the ballet world on this very date in history, 10th October 1750? Well, that is a tricky question, as ballet history isn’t all documented perfectly. But imagine! We're in the heart of the era of French ballet, just after the end of the Rococo period.
I can just imagine! Elegant dancers in ornate costumes with intricate hairstyles and painted faces, leaping across the stage! It’s enough to make my toes tap! Imagine that – swirling tulle and satin shoes, a perfect stage with gleaming chandeliers… and imagine the sound of the music – just pure, unadulterated elegance. Now, I'm off to get my hands on the archives. Just maybe, I can get my pink-tutu-loving hands on some exciting snippets from this glorious time!
Ah! I found a little gem tucked away in a dusty tome at the British Library – it tells me that the very first ballet d’action – a ballet telling a story - was premiered at the French Royal Court back in 1717! Wowzers! I bet those dancers had no idea they were starting something as big as ballet d’action, do you? How I long to experience those performances – just imagine! Perhaps if I’m lucky, Magic Meg and I will have a time-travel adventure back to the Parisian Royal Court one day. We can always dream!
Here's the thing, you see - I truly believe that ballet is not only about dancing. It's about a journey of expression, about emotions swirling and flowing, just like those lovely, elegant tulle tutus! My biggest wish is to see the world wear pink tutus. Why? Well, a little bit of pink joy is exactly what we all need! It's not just about colour, my darlings, it's about finding a sense of lightness and joy, just like we find in a graceful leap.
Until next month, my dear friends, I'm off on another pink-tutu adventure! Make sure you visit www.pink-tutu.com, where I will be posting updates, snippets, and images of my time-travel explorations throughout October. Don't forget to check the blog often – you never know what a pink-tutu-wearing ballerina might unearth from the past!
Love and twirls,
Emma xxx
