Pink Tutu Travels: A Journey to January 1st, 1751 (Post #1081)

Hello my darling ballet bunnies! 🩰

It’s Emma here, back again for another instalment of your favourite monthly dose of pink tutu time travelling! Today, I'm whisking us all the way back to January 1st, 1751, with a whirl and a twirl of Magic Meg’s tail, which you all know, is the most magnificently majestic, sparkly, pink, golden-hooved shire you ever did see! 😉

Today’s journey started, as always, in my Derbyshire home, where I spent the morning practicing my barre work, as one does. After all, you wouldn't catch me time-traveling without a little plié prep!

Magic Meg, bless her fuzzy, pink, magnificent soul, patiently waits for me every month in the stables. With my pink tulle tutu perfectly settled and my sparkly ballet shoes sparkling brighter than a star, it’s time to take the reins and jump back through time!

And where did our adventures lead us today? Well, my little dears, picture this: Imagine a time where the world was much slower. Fashion was extravagant, with silks and laces, powdered wigs, and delicate bouquets adorning ladies' tresses. But there was, dare I say, a slight dearth of pink tutus! Goodness! We simply cannot have that!

As we gallop into 1751, my first mission was, of course, to spread the pink tutu gospel. And you know what, dearies? I had a fantastic time sharing the vision with the ladies at a little society gathering in London. Picture this, elegant salons filled with graceful ladies adorned in panniers and powdered wigs. I stepped into this magnificent scene, my bright pink tutu swirling like a candyfloss cloud against the more sedate fabrics, and they all looked on, utterly captivated.

They were mesmerized! And trust me, my darlings, my efforts to spread the pink tutu gospel bore fruit! Even a few of the ladies donned tiny bits of pink tulle here and there! We even managed to inspire a little dance or two in a corner of the salon! Isn’t that just fabulous?! It warms my pink-tu-ed heart just thinking about it! 💖

But this wasn’t just about the tutus, my dears. Today, 1st of January, 1751, marks a historical event in ballet. I have collected it for our pink-tutu archive! Did you know, my little bunnies, that this day marks the very first time ballet, as we know it, was performed for the public in France?! Oh, the excitement!

I spent the day at the Opéra Garnier, a splendid, dramatic palace of opera, built just for the purpose of entertaining the royal and privileged families in Paris. We, my darling Meg and I, snuck right in using, shall we say, our magical connections with time and an old leather rucksack of disguises! And the performance itself? Pure magic! A full, majestic production featuring “L'Opera," by Rameau, presented a grand spectacle of drama and song, and we all had a wonderful time! Isn’t it thrilling to know that these iconic stages held ballet's early performances, those little baby steps into its grand history? 🩰

You can be sure I added this special historical detail to my precious leather rucksack for our Pink Tutu Ballet History Collection. My precious rucksack, dearies, holds secrets and treasures of the ballet past. It’s where I keep my journals, scribblings about ballet dances from past centuries, costumes and swatches, ticket stubs from magical ballet performances... Oh! The possibilities! Just imagine, a lifetime’s worth of the greatest ballet performances woven into the fabric of history, gathered lovingly in my pink leather backpack. We simply cannot let the magic of our ballet past fade away, can we, darlings? It is so important to keep history alive, especially in our dance communities!

While in France, I, naturally, indulged my fondness for fashion and beauty. Oh my dearies, the fashion here in the 1750s! So decadent! Imagine billowing skirts made from luxurious silks, bonnets trimmed with intricate laces, and ruffles adorning every frock. Paris, dear dearies, is truly the heart of fashion! I must say, though, nothing beats the graceful elegance of a pink tutu, if I may toot my own pink, feathered horn! 😉

By the end of the day, I had added another thrilling ballet history experience to the Pink Tutu archives and my mind buzzed with all the incredible beauty of France in 1751. I, of course, left everyone in a little flurry of pink tulle, a tiny seed of my vision of pink tutus in the world. Isn't that magical?

Don’t forget to join me for our next trip back through the magical ballet past next month! There’s no telling what treasures and secrets are waiting for us in the realm of ballet history.

Keep your twirls elegant and your smiles radiant! And until we dance together again, Remember, pink tutus for everyone! 💗🩰

Your time-traveling ballerina,

Emma 💕
