Pink Tutu Time Travels: 1752 - July 7th (Blog Post #1099)

Hello, darlings! It's your favourite pink-tutu-clad time-traveller Emma, here to whisk you away on a ballet-filled adventure, back to 1752, a most enchanting era for ballet lovers. My trusty steed, Magic Meg - the most sparkly, pink-hooved shire horse in the universe - is all prepped up for our trip. So, strap in your pink tutus (because, naturally, that's the only acceptable attire for time travel), and let's get hopping!

As a devoted ballet buff, July 7th always feels special because... well, there's just so much going on! I have it all on good authority that this particular day in 1752 was a bonanza for those who appreciated the art of dance!

Let's head back to London, England, where our story unfolds... I love the vibe of 18th-century London! So much dramatic elegance, exquisite gowns, and a flurry of theatrical excitement.

And this year? It seems like a particularly exciting year. Just imagine! A royal ball at the Palace of Holyroodhouse in Edinburgh, Scotland, to celebrate the birthday of the young Prince of Wales. (Can you imagine the grand waltzes, the beautifully choreographed minuettes, and the dazzling gowns? Just glorious!)

I had to go undercover as a lady-in-waiting (with the most elaborate, pink, off-the-shoulder gown, of course), so I could sneak into this exclusive event. While the palace shimmered with its intricate design, my heart thrummed to the elegant strains of the string quartet, its notes playing out the heart of the Scottish ball.

Oh, and did I mention that our beloved King George II is celebrating his birthday too?! Fancy that! This man seems to be enjoying his age. A right little party animal, you see.

Across the English Channel in France...

Over there in Paris, it's another party atmosphere! Now, we can't talk about Parisian celebrations without a touch of elegance and finesse. I spied some incredible ballé* d'Opéra* productions showcasing at the **Académie Royale de Musique! Imagine!

Oh, but Italy, you can't forget Italy! Imagine: bustling city streets of Venice, with its glorious waterways. At this very moment, in the city of Florence, they're showcasing ballet comique, with dazzlingly innovative story-based performances. It’s amazing how these dancers manage to be so graceful and passionate! Truly inspirational.

My backpack is filled to the brim with sketches, tales, and notes - memories of this wondrous day in the world of ballet. And remember, darlings, we’re just skimming the surface of this spectacular journey! Each location, every event - it’s an overflowing pot of stories, ready to be uncovered. And I’ve come to realize that even in 1752, a true love of ballet is always present, no matter where in the world you travel!

It makes my heart flutter, you see. The connection we share - past and present - all thanks to our mutual love for ballet! I can’t wait to share more fascinating snippets with you, but, for now, I need to start writing the notes for next month's post! And yes, darling, of course it’ll be all about that glorious, pink tutu! I'll keep you all posted on what's new, from the world of ballet fashion, of course.

See you all next month, darling!
