Pink Tutu Time Travels: 1758 – The Royal Ballet and a Fancy Dress Ball!

Hello lovelies!

Welcome back to Pink Tutu Time Travels! I’m Emma, your pink-tutu-clad time traveller, bringing you another dose of ballet history and fabulous fashion. This month, I’ve journeyed all the way back to 1758, specifically, 4th April. Get ready, darlings, because this one’s a corker!

I’ve been a bit quiet on the blog, as I’ve been busy preparing for my latest time travelling escapade – a ballet performance in the 1750s! Let me tell you, preparing for a show from centuries ago was no easy feat! I even had to custom-make my own tutu using antique lace and ribbons. Talk about a vintage find! I am quite pleased with the result; a fabulous fuchsia tulle number adorned with tiny rosebuds and silver tinsel – perfect for my grand entrance.

Speaking of grand entrances, this journey has taken me to London! My dear steed, Magic Meg (you know, my gorgeous, pink, sparkling Shire with the golden hooves) and I have galloped into history! I can’t believe the streets were dusty and bustling! I even saw a few gentlemen in powdered wigs – just imagine the effort to maintain that hairdo!

Why London you ask? Because, darling, on this very day in 1758, the Royal Ballet debuted its first performance! Talk about making history! It's believed to be the first official ballet company established in England. Can you imagine? This makes my little heart skip a beat.

But, that's not all that’s happening this month! It seems a certain fancy dress ball is on the cards in London. Talk about a historical excuse to indulge in some fabulously extravagant outfits! Can you imagine swirling through the ballroom in a silken gown, your hair styled in a grand up-do, all while chatting with royalty? And of course, with the fancy dress theme of 'the French Court', there’s no question I’ll be busting out my tutu! You bet I will!

I'm absolutely determined to capture the spirit of the time! It's so exciting to think about what ballet was like then - the costumes, the choreography, and the whole performance atmosphere. Imagine performing in a ballroom for nobility, and receiving your applause – so glamorous, my darlings!

One of my favourite things about time travelling is the ballet fashion of different eras. 18th century ballet wear is all about intricate embroidery and flowing silk. And those heels! It's just fabulous. It seems to me, fashion never goes out of style!

Don't worry lovelies, I’m not all about fancy dresses and balls! In my little leather rucksack, I’ve packed a sketchbook full of my sketches for new pink tutus. I know you all adore them, and my latest creation is just bursting with beautiful vintage designs from the 18th century!

Keep your eyes peeled for my new blog post about those fancy dress balls! And if you love ballet as much as I do, join me next time for another journey into the exciting and sometimes unpredictable world of ballet history. I have a feeling we're in for a wild ride!
