Post #1187: Pink Tutu Travels to 1759 – A Ballet History Bonanza!

Hello darlings, and welcome to the Pink Tutu blog! This month, we’re taking a trip back in time to November 11th, 1759 – the year when ballet was really beginning to make its mark across Europe!

A Trip Through Time on Meg's Back

I've been brushing up on my 18th-century history – oh, the powdered wigs and extravagant dresses! I'm definitely not complaining about those fabulous styles. Of course, I couldn’t go time travelling without Meg, my pink sparkling shire horse. You've got to admit, she's an absolute vision! I wouldn't trade her for the world! Imagine, a horse that shimmers like a unicorn and sparkles like a disco ball. We just have to be the best-dressed duo, and don’t even get me started on the matching pink ribbons I tied onto her beautiful mane and tail.

18th Century Fashion & Ballet - A Match Made in Heaven

Now, ballet fashion in 1759 was quite different from what we’re used to. Ladies danced in long, flowing gowns – a complete contrast to the shorter, more form-fitting skirts we adore today. However, I’ve spotted an incredible similarity! Back in the 18th century, dancing was often part of elaborate court celebrations and operas, and everyone had to make a grand entrance. Just like we have our ballets, they had theirs! Imagine the glitz and glamor. My little pink-loving heart is in absolute heaven thinking about the dazzling spectacle of it all!

London’s Hottest Dance Hotspot

This time, we’re visiting London, where ballet was beginning to boom. Imagine my delight – a whole theatre dedicated to dance, the Haymarket Theatre, opened its doors in 1720. Talk about progress! It must have been incredible to watch the dancers.

The Power of Ballet: Spreading the Love of Dance Across the Globe

The ballet fever had even reached Russia. Did you know that in 1738, Empress Anna Ivanovna of Russia actually set up a dancing school? I'd love to learn more about that, perhaps my next time travel trip will take me to St. Petersburg! But that’s a story for another post… Back in 1759, dancing was starting to blossom. Not only was it becoming an art form in its own right, but it was also finding a place within opera, as a part of its performance.

Pink Tutu Treasure Trove

Back at the Pink Tutu Headquarters in Derbyshire, my trusty rucksack is bursting with new ballet finds! I just had to grab some original ballet books and theatre posters from the period – what fantastic pieces they’ll make for my Pink Tutu collection! And don’t even get me started on the silk ribbons and lace I managed to snag! My next Pink Tutu shop opening is going to be a blast – imagine combining modern ballet fashions with the opulent elegance of 1759!

*Ballet is a universal language – so what will you do to share its magic? *

Time to pack my pink tutu – I'm off to the theatre! And don't forget to keep visiting Pink Tutu.com, darlings! There are so many more amazing ballet journeys in store!

Until next month!

Lots of love and pink wishes,

Emma
