Hello my darling ballet bunnies! ๐
It's Emma here, back from another dazzling adventure through the pages of history, this time landing smack-bang in the middle of 1765! You know me, always ready for a little time-travel escapade with Magic Meg, my trusty pink sparkly shire horse with those gleaming golden hooves. We certainly wouldn't be caught dead in anything less than a sparkling pink tutu, would we?
This month's journey landed us on January the 1st, 1765, a rather intriguing date. As you all know, I absolutely adore diving into the history of ballet. And what better way to do it than with a swirling, twirling journey? ๐
Now, you might be thinking, 1765 โ what on earth could have been happening in the ballet world then? Let me tell you, darlings, the world of dance was bursting with exciting changes and innovations! The most notable was, of course, the birth of ballet in France, back in the 15th century! I know, what a revolutionary leap, right?! ๐คฏ
But don't think for a second that this means that ballet was a solo performance, oh no! This era saw an explosion of ballet schools, with the first one popping up in the charming city of Paris. Think beautiful, elegant studios, with swirling tutus in a rainbow of colours โ although my personal favourite is still, of course, pink. โจ We can't forget the influential ballet masters, such as Louis XIV, the Sun King, who practically invented ballet in his spare time, alongside the captivating performance of ballerinas such as Marie Camargo, the daring, pioneering woman who challenged the norm with her daring dance routines. She is practically an inspiration to every ballet enthusiast!
But back to my journey. 1765 marked a special year, as it was when ballet officially took its place in the hallowed halls of the prestigious Royal Ballet! Imagine! Ballet was considered something fit for royalty, and quite rightly too. We wouldn't want to lower ourselves, would we? ๐คญ
Of course, no trip back in time is complete without a little bit of souvenir shopping, isn't it? I've found myself a precious old booklet with delightful illustrations of a beautiful ballerinas' costume from that era. A white, frilled, knee-length dress with dainty, embroidered flowers and, of course, a stunningly flowing sash, almost like the ribbons adorning our ballet shoes. This one was a light blue, a touch of serenity amid the whirlwind of creativity. ๐
And to add to the historical treasures in my rucksack, I came across a lovely hand-painted miniature stage, an artist's vision of what ballet must have been like back then. It depicted graceful ladies, in the lightest of steps and intricate choreography, showcasing the artistry of a dance form in its formative stages. Imagine, this was just the beginning of what ballet was to become! ๐คฏ
Speaking of the ballet form, it wouldn't be right to leave without exploring what was happening on stage in 1765! While the information on ballets being performed in January specifically was scant, I found that around that time, they were showcasing stunning ballets in both London and Paris. It was in Paris that they were debuting "La Naissance dโAmour" โ the Birth of Love, a truly breathtaking masterpiece! ๐น And then we had London, a true gem, a treasure trove of exquisite shows like the "The Seasons," where you could almost feel the changing tides of weather and the emotions that came with it! ๐
However, I know what you all are dying to know, dear ballet bunnies: Did they have pink tutus in 1765?! Well, you'll never guess what?! They absolutely did! It might not have been quite as sparkly as mine, but the fashion was all about pastel hues and romantic touches, and they did have an amazing pink shade! โจ
Can you believe that back then, ballet fashion had been inspired by real dresses?! What an absolutely lovely link to the fashion of the time! You could practically walk down the street in a beautifully tailored, elegant ballerina dress and blend right in, but we know we'll all be going for our signature pink tutu for a timeless look! ๐
One thing's for sure: It's fascinating to see how the dance form has evolved through time, all while maintaining its magic! Now, after this inspiring adventure, my dearest ballet bunnies, you all know what to do! Throw on that stunning pink tutu, take a moment to twirl, and revel in the wonderful world of ballet. You're already stars! ๐
