Pink Tutu Travels: Post #1294 - A Glimpse into 1768 with Magic Meg!

Hello darlings! Emma here, and welcome back to Pink Tutu Travels, where we journey through time, one twirl at a time! This month, Magic Meg and I are trotting back to October 10th, 1768, a time when the world of ballet was experiencing some exciting changes.

Buckle up, because this month’s adventure will take us on a whirl through fashion, performances, and even a touch of ballet history!

As I saddled up Magic Meg (my stunning pink sparkle shire horse, of course, with those golden hooves and white mane!), I was buzzing with anticipation. This date was brimming with ballet delights.

Our first stop was the majestic Royal Opera House in London. Ooh la la! It was simply divine. Can you imagine? This elegant theatre had just opened its doors for the very first time. The entire city was buzzing, and the buzz, my dears, was about ballet! This wasn’t just any old theatre; this was THE theatre for all things theatrical!

Inside, I saw a whole cast of lovely dancers rehearsing, all swishing in the most darling dresses and their beautiful powdered wigs, oh, so dramatic! There was so much grandeur. They even had a huge chandelier shimmering in the middle, and of course, it was as sparkly as the stars above us. Imagine the feeling of the soft velvet seats beneath you and the smell of the perfume wafting through the air. Absolutely dreamy!

And oh, the dancing! You wouldn’t believe the exquisite choreography they had. The men were in those divine tight breeches and breeches. The dancers moved with such grace and passion. It was all about refined steps and delicate arm movements - an elegant, yet strong style. They had some fabulous dance numbers featuring pirouettes and leaps, all those classic, captivating steps. It was an absolute feast for the eyes.

I watched, enthralled, and took copious notes for my collection of ballet stories, adding another layer of historical richness to my rucksack! After all, it's all about preserving these incredible moments and sharing them with you, my darlings!

Now, speaking of collections... the most adorable part of this trip? The costumes! The dancers were adorned in the most darling dresses and bodices! Those ruffled sleeves and bodices were so very beautiful. The fabrics were lavish with lace and frills. Imagine being able to move and twirl in something so exquisitely feminine. They were in a different world of dress then, which made me long for some of those styles for myself! After all, you can never have enough ruffles, darling!

While I’m not sure about pink tutus yet, there certainly was a definite love for elaborate clothing back then. This truly was a period where ballet took centre stage and made a grand fashion statement. I am SO delighted to have shared this exciting moment with you!

Of course, no visit is complete without a bit of shopping, wouldn't you agree, dears? So we dashed off to the bustling markets to discover some enchanting new ballet items for my collection! You just know that I found a couple of those cute ruffled bonnets, didn’t you?

This month, I also popped in on the latest Parisian trends for a truly delightful glimpse of ballet history! Imagine a world without YouTube or even proper ballet classes for that matter! Yet there was an air of elegant and refined movement, especially within ballet circles! The very fact that such an amazing new theatre had been opened on October 10th in London, just goes to show you the dedication to ballet at the time. It was fascinating!

Now, I must confess, being in London was pretty special but I did miss being in my beloved Derbyshire. I'm still so proud to have grown up there. It's where my ballet love affair began, amongst the green fields and beautiful valleys! A big thank you to Derbyshire, for planting the seed!

So there you have it! Just another magical time-traveling escapade on the Pink Tutu Travels blog. Don’t forget to tune in next month for my next ballet-filled adventure. Remember, dear readers, there are plenty more pink tutus for us to share! We’ll be going on some fabulous adventures in our favourite pastime - sharing our ballet passions!

See you all soon, my darlings!
