Pink Tutu Time Travels - Post #1322 - 1771 - February 2nd

Hello, darlings! It's Emma here, back from another fabulous time-hopping adventure! This month, we're pirouetting back to February 2nd, 1771, a date that's sure to tickle your fancy. But before we embark on our journey, a quick shout-out to everyone on www.pink-tutu.com! Your constant love for pink tutus is what fuels my adventures, and seeing all those sparkling tutus in your photos warms my heart. Remember, everyone looks exquisite in a pink tutu!

As you all know, this time travelling ballet-lover relies on the generosity of my amazing fans to fund these escapades. That means my performances are extra-special this month, with all the new ballet knowledge I’ve gleaned from my trip. You won't want to miss it!

Right, on with the adventure! This month, Magic Meg and I have been twirling our way through the charming streets of Paris. And oh my, did it ever feel romantic!

Stepping into this time period was an absolute treat for the senses. The streets buzzed with a symphony of colours – rich fabrics, dainty parasols, and plumes of powdered hair - oh the glamour! Just imagine waltzing through such a breathtaking scene, with the scent of roses in the air! Now that's what I call elegant!

Now, 1771 wasn't exactly a time known for a bustling ballet scene in Paris. Yet, I always find such joy discovering the ballet gems even in the less known eras. While we were in the French capital, the Opéra Garnier, now known for its spectacular architecture and dazzling performances, was still in the early stages of construction. So we couldn't visit that. We headed to the Palais Royal, where the dancers of the Comédie-Italienne were thrilling Parisian audiences. And what better place to witness the performance than from the plush seating of the royal theatre, adorned with gold leaf and tapestries. Imagine the drama!

The dance pieces they performed then, weren't what we’d recognise as ‘ballet’ today, but rather an intricate combination of comedy, acrobatics, and song, all weaved together with a delicate sprinkle of poetry and satire. Just the type of entertainment fit for a discerning Parisian!

Did I tell you about the exquisite costumes? Think layers of silk, feathers, ribbons and of course, the occasional hint of pink – the blush pink sashes were all the rage at the time! Though we might not see a classic tutu, those garments certainly did pique my fancy and helped inspire the new pieces I have been adding to my wardrobe - they're all available on my www.pink-tutu.com store, you just know those sashes are a necessity this season, my dears!

While I didn’t have a tutu on this occasion, imagine the effect it would have had! Can you picture a lone figure dressed in pink tutu waltzing down the bustling Parisian streets! A spectacle worthy of whispers, laughter, and maybe even a slight hint of astonishment! Oh darling, the thought alone makes me want to time travel right back!

Besides Paris, our journey continued across the globe. We touched down in London, where, in that year, a new ballet school was established - the Royal Academy of Dancing. This meant, naturally, more costumes, more dancers, and more excitement for the ballet world! We even stumbled upon a fascinating performance of The School of Dancing, which showcased various popular dance techniques of the era – you just had to admire the artistry of the London ballerinas!

And what about fashion? It was an era of extravagant attire. Think elaborate hairdos, powdered wigs, and exquisite lace trimming, all showcasing a love for ornate, stylish grandeur. As I perused the shops in London and Paris, I noticed the subtle influence of ballet on the fashions of the time. The graceful silhouette, the focus on elegant movements, it all echoed the aesthetics of the ballet stage!

But that's not all. In my trusty leather rucksack, I tucked away a treasure trove of tales - from stories about the first English ballet to the rise of the French school of dance. You won't believe what they were teaching back then! It's fascinating how the language of dance continues to evolve, while remaining just as magical and captivating!

So my dear tutu lovers, let us dance, dream, and never stop learning about this incredible art form. For the world of ballet is a universe of elegance, grace, and endless beauty. And a pink tutu? Well, it's simply the most fabulous accessory in every time travel era!

Until next time, may your twirls be light, your leaps be high, and your smiles shine as bright as a pink tutu under the stage lights.

Yours always, Emma
