Pink-Tutu.com Post #1483: A Pink Tutu Adventure to 1784, July 7th!

Hello darlings! Emma here, your pink tutu-clad time-travelling ballerina, ready to whisk you away on a fantastical journey to 1784, 7th July! Buckle up, because this time, we're heading to the heart of Parisian ballet, and it's all thanks to my fabulous, shimmering steed - Magic Meg!

I simply adore this era! The 1780s saw a flurry of change and innovation in the world of ballet, so it's no wonder that this journey has been particularly exciting. It all began in my usual way, sipping tea in my Derbyshire cottage, dreaming of pink tulle and the swish of silk petticoats. It was just a casual perusal of my favourite ballet history tome, when a flash of gold shimmer caught my eye - it was a miniature 1780s ballet slipper! The size of a thimble, it twirled delicately before me.

"Magic Meg," I whispered, "Where are we going this month?" And just like that, the shire horse, with her sparkling pink coat and white mane, whinnied, a joyous twinkle in her golden hooves. With a whoosh, we were gone!

Parisian Premiere of 'Le Déluge' - A Ballet Symphony of Sound & Water

Our arrival in Paris was, of course, breathtaking! Magic Meg always knows the most fabulous places to land - this time, it was the very stage of the Salle de l'Opéra! Imagine, a sneak peek before the audience arrives! I peeked through the velvet curtains to witness the final rehearsals of "Le Déluge" - a ballet, no, an experience! This grand, monumental spectacle took the story of Noah's Ark, filling the stage with waterfalls and fantastical creatures, all set to the evocative music of Jean-François Le Sueur! The music flowed around me like the waves of the simulated ocean, so beautiful I could barely tear myself away.

While the dancers were all men at this time, (imagine!), their energy and fluidity were mesmerizing! My rucksack was full to the brim with sketches of their movements and stage designs - the dramatic choreography, the use of sound effects and even a stagehand who brought live swans onto the set! (A moment of sheer theatrical genius, I must say!).

La Fontaine: A Timeless Fairy Tale

We weren’t quite done with Parisian magic yet. After "Le Déluge," a delightful gentleman named Charles Simon Favart presented us with a treasure: a handwritten manuscript of "La Fontaine", a delightful ballet adapted from the iconic fables. A true master of dance and storytelling, Favart brought the moral tales to life with incredible panache!

Later, while indulging in the most exquisite macaroons (oh, Parisian pastries, I do adore you!) in a bustling café, I overheard chatter about a famous Parisian ballet school, a haven for aspiring ballerinas. What joy to know that the passion for dance has always existed in these lovely streets! I longed to dance in that studio, to learn from the legendary teachers who graced these walls, and of course, to wear my own pink tutu as I whirled and twirled! (But alas, history is not mine to rewrite! At least not yet! Maybe in my next time travel escapade?)

A Pink Tutu Moment of Fashion History

The fashion! Oh, the fashion! Ladies were embracing their inner goddesses in high-waisted gowns and lace ruffles. I noticed that pink was beginning to emerge as a fashionable colour, and so naturally, my pink tulle took on an air of being "avant garde!"

Just then, I spotted a fabric store bustling with colourful silks and laces! It's true, some things truly transcend time.

"Excuse me, madam," I asked a lady with a fetching green hat and flowing skirts. "Do you believe that ballet is a good way to demonstrate grace and fashion?"

"Mon Dieu, Mademoiselle!" she replied. " It's how every lady should move, and I love to watch those graceful figures swirling across the stage! The movement and the attire...it's a perfect union!"

Oh, she just made my day, a total "pink-tutu- moment", you know? It reminded me that dance has always been a captivating expression of grace and elegance, and fashion is a key component! I mean, I am Emma, the pink-tutu-clad time-travel ballerina, wouldn’t it be fantastic if pink tutus become the world’s most sought-after fashion? That's my mission in life, dear readers, and if this fashion-conscious French lady agrees with me, who knows where it might lead?

A Pink Tutu Back To My Time!

Sadly, all journeys must eventually end. But not without a magical souvenir! Before bidding adieu to 1784, I acquired a genuine, silk ballet ribbon, in the loveliest shade of blush pink! (Such a precious addition to my rucksack, which is overflowing with Parisian elegance, and shall serve as a reminder of the magic I found there. It’s one thing I plan to treasure).

With a goodbye wink at the dancing figures of the Salle de l'Opéra, we soared back into the air, Magic Meg carrying me back to my cozy Derbyshire cottage, a newfound zest for pink filling my heart.
