Pink Tutu Time Travels: Post #1500 - A Parisian Premiere & My Tutu-tastic Outfit!

Hello darling ballet bunnies! Emma here, your pink tutu-clad time traveller, bringing you the latest from my monthly jaunt through the fascinating world of ballet history! This month, I've had a truly enchanting journey to December 12th, 1785, and let me tell you, it was a trip filled with breathtaking artistry, beautiful ballet, and a sprinkle of Parisian glamour!

I woke up in my Derbyshire cottage with the sun peeking through the window, just like it must have been for our ballerinas centuries ago. Magic Meg was snorting patiently outside, her golden hooves gleaming under the morning dew. Today, we were off to Paris, to witness the premiere of a new ballet that would become a sensation – “La Fille Mal Gardée” or The Spoilt Daughter. How excited was I? Oh my, let's just say that the anticipation was about to make me dance around the village square like a giddy sugarplum fairy!

Now, you know me, I love a bit of sartorial splendor when it comes to time travel. And this trip demanded a real show-stopper! I chose a glorious pink tutu, perfectly ruffled and just begging to twirl! It sparkled like a thousand stars under the winter sunlight, just like the jewels I adorned my hair with. I paired it with a fitted pink bodice, elegant and stylish, showcasing my love for the colour with pride. My black velvet cape, lined with white lace, added a touch of dramatic mystery, reminding everyone that beneath the vibrant colour, lies a passion for the dance that burns hotter than a thousand sunrises!

Riding into Paris with Magic Meg, her pink and white mane whipping in the crisp Parisian air, felt absolutely divine! I couldn't resist snapping a picture of the magnificent Eiffel Tower rising in the distance - imagine this Parisian marvel towering over the streets back then, only a gleam in the architect’s eye. Talk about historical juxtaposition!

Anyway, off to the Théâtre du Palais-Royal, our destination for the premiere of “La Fille Mal Gardée”! I love the French flair - such drama and extravagance! As I entered the grand theater, the buzz of anticipation filled the air. Dressed to the nines, Parisians from every walk of life were here to witness the debut of this charming new ballet, composed by Jean-Baptiste Lully, and choreographed by the ever-brilliant Jean-Georges Noverre. It was truly electrifying to be part of this moment!

This ballet tells a hilarious story – think comedic choreography and endearing characters. The story centers on a charming young couple who are, naturally, kept apart by their respective families. The ballet showcases a lovely balance of gentle love story and lively dance. I must say, the whole performance, from the costumes to the choreography, left me quite enthralled!

The highlight of the evening for me was the dance sequence of Lise, a peasant girl who rebels against her controlling mother’s wishes to marry her off. Her passion and independence shine through as she gracefully dances with her beloved, Colas. I caught myself grinning ear to ear – that moment captured the true spirit of “La Fille Mal Gardée” perfectly. It was just… magical!

Oh! And did I mention that the entire performance was punctuated by laughter? We're talking belly-aching, joyous laughter as we all delighted in the characters’ witty banter and clever choreography! Such a joyous ballet experience, you truly felt the shared happiness in the theatre.

Later that night, I made my way to a quaint café, sipping hot chocolate and taking in the vibrant energy of Paris. While listening to the city's soft hum, I penned my thoughts into my leather rucksack - every journey filled with historical gems just waiting to be unearthed! I scribbled notes about the dancers’ graceful movements and the lively story. Imagine, centuries later, sharing these experiences with all of you, my dear ballet bunnies!

Now, I’m sure you are all eager to know about my collection! Today’s journey led to an absolutely charming discovery! Tucked away in a vintage shop, I found the most exquisite ballet shoe design. Imagine a beautifully delicate design with intricate satin embroidery – so elegant!

As for my fashion picks – a simple and chic, silk pink scarf caught my eye. Imagine pairing this scarf with a white blouse and a tailored pink skirt – a beautiful look!

And you just can't forget my tutu, darling! The one I wore on this historical escapade! I'm even going to wear this special pink tutu for a ballet performance next week at the Royal Albert Hall!

Remember, darling ballet bunnies, “La Fille Mal Gardée” was just the start of this beautiful ballet's journey. The choreography evolved through the centuries, becoming even more beloved and captivating as time went on. The next time you’re lucky enough to witness this timeless piece, think of its beginnings on December 12th, 1785, and the joyous laughter and vibrant Parisian energy that surrounded it!

I can't wait to share my next time travel adventure with you! Until then, keep dancing, keep dreaming, and always remember, there’s a pink tutu out there waiting for you to twirl in!

Until next month,

Your pink tutu-clad time traveller, Emma.
