Pink Tutu Time Travels - Post #1517: A Royal Ballet Soirée in 1787

Hello my gorgeous ballet-loving darlings! It's Emma here, your favourite pink tutu-clad time-travelling ballerina, ready to whisk you away on a whirl of a journey back to the 18th century!

As you know, I’m utterly obsessed with all things ballet, from the grand tutus of the past to the innovative, edgy styles of today. So when I found myself gazing through the annals of ballet history, I realised, that on 5th May 1787, a momentous event occurred that was quite literally, the crème de la crème of royal ballet celebrations!

Time to Saddle Up!

Let’s climb aboard good ol' Magic Meg, my sparkly pink Shire horse with the most fabulous golden hooves and white mane you ever did see! (She does have a bit of a thing for glittery pink saddles, don't you know?) And off we go! We're hurtling through the years, a blur of vibrant colours and swirling tulle, leaving a shimmering pink trail behind us...

Back in the Time of Marie Antoinette!

We arrive, slightly breathless from the time travel, in the heart of 18th century Vienna. A flurry of silks, lace, and powdered wigs. Everywhere I look, it’s pure extravagance and elegance!

Why Vienna you ask? Because the 5th of May 1787, saw the performance of a dazzling new ballet, 'Il Pazzo per Amore', (The Madman for Love), which is like a super special ballet debut - think your first performance but even more amazing!

It was orchestrated by no lesser than the legendary Italian composer, Giovanni Paisiello. He was basically the big cheese of music and had composed for the royal family and some seriously impressive theatres back then, like the Teatro San Carlo in Naples!

A Grand Ballet Experience:

Oh my goodness, the Vienna Royal Opera was positively glittering that night! Can you imagine all those dazzling chandeliers and velvet seating, dripping with sparkle? It was pure decadence!

As the music swelled, I was just blown away by the artistry of the dancers. I had to sneak a peek in the backstage - a veritable flurry of petticoats, tutus, and lace sleeves. Such a sight to behold! The sheer elegance, the athleticism - just perfection! The graceful steps and exquisite costumes, they were the epitome of pure balletic bliss! I would've loved to get a peek inside their dance bag. I wonder if they kept little silk sashes to tie around their wrists like ballerinas today, for warmth.

The dance was based on an ancient legend, like the most amazing love story ever told. I have to admit, I totally got lost in the plot, swooning along with the ballerinas. The drama, the intrigue, the pure romance - my heart was overflowing! I just wish I could've brought a camera!

And then, at the finale, the applause was absolutely deafening, like an explosion of joy! Every member of the audience seemed spellbound, captivated by the magic of ballet. I couldn’t have imagined a more glamorous or joyful ballet evening. I was totally inspired!

Back Home: Spreading the Pink Tutu Love!

Back in Derbyshire, nestled amidst the green rolling hills, my heart is still buzzing. This whole time travel adventure has made me want to embrace all the glitz and glamour of ballet. So you know what? I've just been to my local theatre - I am absolutely hooked on ballet performances now! It’s like getting lost in a whole other world! It just transports me somewhere else.

The feeling of being swept away by the elegance of the ballerinas, the power of the dancers, and the symphony of emotions that ballet inspires? Pure magic!

You know I have to go on a hunt for some more fancy outfits - perhaps a sparkly bolero to throw over my pink tutu for those upcoming performances! Maybe with some silver accents - just think of all the amazing photos we can take for the blog!

Remember my loves, ballet is all about expressing ourselves, about captivating the world with the power of movement, and the magic of creativity!

So go out there, get that pink tutu out, twirl and spin and embrace the dazzling magic of the dance!

Stay glamorous and always remember - it's a pink tutu kind of world!

With love, Emma xxx
