Hello my lovely tutu-loving friends! Emma here, back with another enchanting adventure from the wonderful world of ballet! This month, my trusty steed Magic Meg and I are whisking back to the year 1793, and boy, oh boy, does this year have some exciting stories for you! 😉
Now, I've been to all sorts of historical moments – danced with Diaghilev in 1909, waltzed with the swans in 1894 – but this trip is special. We're landing on the 11th of November, the day the French Revolution began to reshape the world of ballet. Can you imagine, the dance world experiencing such dramatic changes? Think dramatic, revolutionary, expressive dance, and maybe a few rebellions with a pirouette or two thrown in! 😂
Speaking of revolutionary, have I ever mentioned how much I adore a pink tutu? They're just so… fabulous! But in 1793, it wouldn't be the same pink! Imagine dusty pinks, muted pinks – the pinks of powdered wigs and rosy cheeks! You wouldn't catch me in anything less than my sparkling fuchsia tutu, however. A touch of pink revolution, don't you think?
Let's backtrack for a moment! Did you know that 1793 was a landmark year in dance history? A whole new era, the Romanticism era, was unfolding! This period marked the beginning of ballet as we know it. More dynamic movements, emotive storytelling – a dramatic shift from the structured grandeur of the courts.
Before the French Revolution, ballet was reserved for the elite, performed in luxurious theatres, reserved only for those with the privilege. The Revolution completely overturned that. This meant that people from all walks of life could enjoy the art form, and the style started to become much more accessible, much like my website! 🎉
We can all see how much the art of dance has changed with the impact of the French Revolution. It’s like a swirling ballerina skirt, ever evolving and captivating. What's exciting, and what makes it so exciting for me as a time traveler, is how these changes started in that moment – 11th November, 1793!
This time trip, I am on the hunt for stories of how the revolution transformed dance in Paris, which was a vibrant centre of dance. Just think about it, folks. Imagine seeing ballet performances with a different lens, seeing ballet being shared and danced amongst the general public. I’m just itching to meet dancers, choreographers, anyone connected to this turning point. I’ve got a hunch I'll find some fascinating stories for my website and some gorgeous costume pieces for my collection!
Speaking of ballet fashion, imagine what Parisian dancers wore in 1793! Imagine the dramatic contrasts, with those beautiful billowing gowns and tight corseted waists. I wouldn’t be surprised to find that a tutu wouldn't be part of their costumes yet, although I will definitely encourage them to embrace the pink! It’s definitely on my list for future time travels - to persuade past ballerinas to go pink. Think about it. "The French Revolution, but make it pink!". 😄
Oh, my collection! My little leather rucksack is almost bursting at the seams with fabulous finds from 1793!
To fill you in on my travel plans, my current ballet tour is keeping me occupied for the moment. I will be heading off on my magical journey in my pink tutu just after “A Midsummer Night’s Dream,” by the Royal Ballet closes in London at the Royal Opera House. The gorgeous set and costumes are certainly inspiration for any pink tutu-clad traveler! They should consider going with pink and lilac! 😍 I hear that a lot of pink is involved.
After London, it’s a hop to my home, Derbyshire, to see the delightful ballet "Cinderella" on at the Buxton Opera House. Nothing better than to kick back and be amazed by the fairytale performances. That’ll help prepare me for the real magic in the ballet world! It is an important show, full of pink dresses, shoes, flowers - it really tickles my tutu-wearing soul!
Of course, a true ballerina’s day always ends with a quick pirouette into the world of ballet shopping! Nothing beats indulging in the delightful “La Boutique Fantasique”, by Pink Ballerina Ballet Wear (and my favourite store!). So many beautiful things. It’s the perfect spot for any pink tutu, sparkly headbands, or even cute little ballet shoes! I always have to remind myself I already have a closet full!😂
With a hop, skip and a twirl, this is your girl Emma, from pink-tutu.com, saying goodbye! See you next time on our fabulous time-travel adventures! Don't forget to get into the revolutionary spirit! Let's make the world of ballet as pink and sparkly as it can be! 💖✨
