Pink Tutu Time Travels - #1652: A Night at the Opéra with Marie (08 August, 1798)

Greetings from www.pink-tutu.com, fellow ballet enthusiasts!

This month, Magic Meg, my magnificent pink shimmering Shire with golden hooves, galloped us back to the year 1798! I do love a good time travel adventure. We’ve taken you to the Parisian Opera Ballet in the 1600s, waltzed with the Romanovs in the 1800s and even pirouetted around Ancient Rome in, well, ancient Rome. Today, however, it was a night at the OpĂ©ra!

Let’s talk pink tutus! I mean, what other colour could I possibly wear to an opera in Paris? My lovely new confection is simply divine – soft tulle, delicately gathered with a touch of sparkling diamantes, and, of course, adorned with pink silk ribbons for an extra touch of grace.

And let’s talk Magic Meg, she simply sparkles! Imagine, if you will, a fiery pink sheen with golden hooves that click like a carriage on cobblestones. Her white mane and tail flowing like silk behind her as she gallops us through time, she's my faithful time-traveling companion!

Back to the Parisian Opera

The scent of lilac and sandalwood filled the air, and the excitement of anticipation hung thick around us as we arrived at the Opéra Garnier. It was like stepping into a painting, all gold and velvet and gilded balconies! I, of course, couldn't resist a little peek at the fashions. The women were resplendent, powdered wigs, billowing silk gowns and shimmering jewellery! A vision!

Meeting Marie

Once I settled into my box – plush crimson velvet, oh how I adore velvet! - I saw a sweet young lady gazing at me curiously. Her name was Marie and she had just arrived in Paris from a rural town. Imagine – never seen a ballet before! We had the most delightful conversation as she told me of country life, a life of working with her family on the land. It made my heart warm – so far removed from our bustling life here in Derbyshire, but we spoke of flowers, of hard work, and dreams. It reminded me that no matter how far away we may be, there’s beauty to be found in every corner of the world, in every life we touch.

Now, to the real highlight of our trip, the ballet itself! That evening, they performed the much-anticipated debut of “L’heureuse JournĂ©e”, or "The Happy Day," with music by Franz Joseph Haydn, a celebrated composer from Austria. It is truly captivating; a delightful romantic ballet of delicate dance moves.

I couldn’t help but snap some photos in my little travel pouch - so handy, especially with my special Time Travelling Polaroid camera – which, if I’m honest, looks suspiciously like a large locket!

Bringing it all home

Tonight, I was reminded of the immense power of ballet. To touch the hearts of women like Marie, to transport her, if just for a moment, into a world of imagination and grace, that, my fellow time travelers, is the real magic of the dance.

We spend a whole day here, seeing Paris through the eyes of the time. There's so much to learn about 18th-century Parisian fashion, the rise of classical ballet, and of course, the love stories tucked into the dance, which makes my heart truly leap!

My next time travel trip takes us to the dawn of the 20th century where ballet truly flourished - imagine, the first tutus, and how those dancers leapt to a world that embraced ballet more than ever before! Oh, and it's my birthday so a whole extra sparkly tutu is coming with me!

Until then, remember to keep those pink tutus shimmering! Stay connected through www.pink-tutu.com - my world of ballet.
