Pink Tutu Time Travel: 1799 – 02 February – Post #1658 πŸ©°πŸ’–

Hello, my darling darlings! πŸ’‹ Emma here, back from another fabulous trip through the glittering world of ballet history. Today's destination? 2nd February, 1799! Don't worry, I haven't left my pink tutu at home. It's the perfect companion for any journey through the ages. I even added a new detail: a delicate lace trimming! πŸ’–

Remember Magic Meg? My faithful pink, shimmering Shire steed, the one with the golden hooves and the flowing white mane and tail, is waiting impatiently outside, ready for another thrilling adventure. I just adore that girl! πŸ’• I couldn't even contemplate a journey into the past without her, she truly is a majestic wonder!

And speaking of wonder, just imagine, darlings, the excitement of seeing what ballet looked like back then! Did you know that the ballet scene was bursting with creativity in 1799? Imagine the music, the costumes, the dancing! 😍 Oh, the stories that I brought back in my leather rucksack. I have a piece of original costume, the most exquisite little silk ribbon that was worn around a ballerina's wrist - so dainty and beautifully preserved! 😍

So, let's whisk ourselves back to February 2nd, 1799!

First, we have to consider the weather! London, where we'll be focusing our adventures, was freezing! πŸ₯Ά Just imagine walking through a cold English February street, shivering a bit, and then stepping into a warm theatre. That feeling, I imagine, must have been a beautiful contrast! ✨ I can just picture it, a theatre packed with excitement, buzzing with energy!

Did you know that there were only a couple of big opera houses in London at that time, and they doubled up as ballet theatres too! Imagine, you’d see everything, from opera to dance to theatre! And who knows what fantastic fashions were being flaunted in the audience! I so wish we had a time machine for clothing as well as history! 😍 I would simply be in heaven! πŸ’–

Now, about that ballet, my dears! It's impossible to know exactly which piece was being performed on this particular date. But if you're anything like me, just thinking about those early ballets is pure magic! πŸ’ƒ They must have been truly enchanting. You know, the earlier versions of ballet focused a lot on intricate, expressive movements that focused on showing a range of emotions, which really brought stories to life through dancing!

Imagine all the characters, the passion, the artistry! πŸ’– Isn't it inspiring to think about the history behind our favourite form of dance? What amazing artists inspired the ballets we enjoy today? I'd love to be in the audience with those early dance enthusiasts, witnessing something that will ultimately inspire generations of future ballerinas. 🩰

While we can't step directly onto that stage from 1799, I’ll tell you what, we can recreate some of that beauty! How about putting on our own pink tutus (of course), and dancing to a piece of music from that period? πŸ’– There are wonderful orchestras that still play 18th-century compositions, it would be heavenly. It's not just about remembering history, it's about celebrating and enjoying that glorious art form, just like those dance enthusiasts from long ago!

After our little dance party, wouldn't it be fun to imagine a little shopping spree in the London of 1799? πŸ›’ Remember how I mentioned a lace trimming on my tutu? Well, that is one of the few relics from the 18th Century that I collected! I imagined the silk and satin fashions the London ladies wore in 1799 – just thinking about the styles they wore to a ballet performance! They probably wouldn’t have worn the elaborate dresses of the upper class ladies to ballet as those dresses wouldn't allow them the mobility to move with ease, but I am sure their elegance was exquisite.

Of course, there were the shoemakers and milliners of that time who provided the exquisite pieces that gave those elegant London women their perfect silhouette and added to their fashionable air. They’d probably still be selling things we love today. If I were there, you can be sure I’d be picking out the prettiest fabric for a brand new, utterly fabulous pink tutu. βœ¨πŸ’–

As my travels continue to take me all across the history of ballet, my love for dance only grows stronger. I'll be back next month with another tale from my time travels, but in the meantime, please do check out our new β€˜Time Travels’ gallery on www.pink-tutu.com where I will be posting a photo a month of what I've found during my journey. It will be so much fun for all of us to journey together through history! ✨ πŸ’–

Until then, keep dancing!

Love,

Emma πŸ’–
