Pink Tutu Travels: 1803, 08th August – A Parisian Waltz!

Welcome back to Pink Tutu Travels! It's your girl Emma, your pink tutu-wearing time travelling ballet blogger, back with another fabulous journey through time!

This month, my trusty steed Magic Meg and I have galloped our way to the charming city of Paris in the year 1803, just a few years before the legendary Napoleon Bonaparte took control. But that's another story for another day! 😉

I must confess, my little tutu-clad heart is fluttering with excitement. You see, this date in history marks a moment of absolute Parisian magic – the unveiling of the grand Théâtre de l'Opéra de Paris! Now, anyone who knows me knows I have a soft spot for grand, beautiful spaces filled with the whispers of history. This place, my darlings, is a feast for the eyes!

Just imagine: the gilded, lavish halls echoing with the exquisite music of a ballet. A kaleidoscope of sparkling costumes, the precise movements of dancers swirling like flowers in the wind. Ah, it makes me want to pirouette with delight!

Of course, I couldn't just admire this architectural masterpiece from afar. With my ever-present leather rucksack, which always feels full of excitement, I popped into the Théâtre de l'Opéra de Paris itself. And, oh my, did I discover some delightful tidbits!

Stepping Back in Time:

Imagine my thrill when I unearthed a program for an actual ballet performance. It features a dance by Pierre Gardel, a legendary dancer from that time! And the story, "The Triumph of Minerva," is pure magical enchantment! My darlings, a Greek goddess on stage, with tales of victory, grace, and love... you simply must imagine the costumes! My mind is already spinning with the colours and patterns that would have adorned those ethereal dancers.

Parisian Fashion – A Blast from the Past:

You see, fashion is something I always find fascinating, and the ladies of the time in Paris are not holding back! The dresses are absolutely breathtaking – tight waists, flowing skirts, and lots of silk and lace. Just the way I like it!

However, it is not just the outfits that have my imagination ablaze! Imagine my delight when I saw a magnificent painting at the Salon of the French Academy, showcasing one of the most celebrated ballets of the era: "Psyche" by Charles Didelot. The delicate portrayal of the dancers, their postures so refined and precise, reminded me of the breathtaking power of classical ballet.

It's like the painter captured a single fleeting moment in time, where the dancers defy gravity and paint emotions with every movement.

Parisian Flair:

After taking in a few dance lessons at a local studio (you know I can't travel without getting in some ballet practice!), I took to the cobbled streets of Paris to observe the charm of Parisian life.

The cafe terraces were alive with lively chatter, musicians strumming guitars and violins, while the air smelled of delicious croissants and freshly baked bread. A delightful sight, especially for a girl with a sweet tooth like myself!

The Magic of Meg and a Touch of Pink:

Even though I was in the heart of Paris, there's something deeply calming about returning to Magic Meg and her pink sparkling coat. It feels like coming home to a place of pure, unconditional love and joy. Her soft mane is always ready to receive a friendly hug, and her golden hooves always tap out a rhythm, like the echo of a waltz.

I know it's not every day someone gets to hop on a pink horse and travel through time, but as I sat on Magic Meg's back, feeling the gentle sway of her gallop, I felt so incredibly fortunate.

My journey through 1803, Paris, has been an absolute delight. From the magnificence of the Théâtre de l'Opéra de Paris to the elegant ballet performances, to the charm of Parisian life and a few hours spent studying the captivating fashion of the time, I've gained another wonderful piece of ballet history.

And of course, it wouldn't be a proper trip without me sharing the stories of my adventures.
