Darling Dancers!
It's November the 11th and you know what that means? It's time for another trip on Magic Meg, my pink shimmering Shire horse, back to the wonderful world of Ballet History! My backpack is prepped and packed, stuffed with my ballet diary, a sketchbook, and my ever-reliable camera (don't you just adore antique cameras? They capture such ethereal moments). I've even tucked in a couple of spare pink tutus just in case we encounter any fashion emergencies, you never know, darling!
Today we are zooming all the way back to 1803! This time, we're heading to Vienna, a city bursting with culture and...drumroll please...ballrooms! Can you imagine, darling, ballrooms so vast you could pirouette your heart out without ever hitting the wall? Vienna in the early 1800s was absolutely buzzing with dancing, music, and all things theatrical. I can't wait to see if my pink tutu will be the talk of the town.
Ballet's Austrian Glamour
You know how much I adore ballet, right? So, my dears, let's talk about this magical art form as it was celebrated in Vienna way back when! The Vienna State Opera House was opening its doors to some breathtaking performances.
On November 11th 1803, The Imperial Ballet graced the stage with its glorious talents. Imagine the stunning costumes, the swirling lights, and the audience dressed to the nines! It's truly fascinating how ballet evolved over time, so I am eager to see what stylistic flourishes might have made their way into their dances and if the dancers were sporting romantic tutus yet! Oh my, wouldn’t that be a dream, a perfect snapshot for my Ballet Time Travel Scrapbook. Just a thought - wouldn't that be a fabulous dance outfit for a debutante ball in London, perhaps next season at the Royal Opera House? Imagine a dance of exquisite movement.
An Evening of Ballet History
Imagine attending this performance. Can you picture it? It is such a dream to get lost in the elegance of that period!
Now, my dear fellow ballet enthusiasts, imagine the delicious delicacies being enjoyed at these glittering parties – imagine those magnificent balls, a flurry of beautiful ladies in silks and satins! But before the waltz swept them into a romantic whirlwind, I imagine some grand steps were performed to welcome guests. Did you know? Ballroom dance has strong roots in ballet technique! Just think, when you are perfecting your grand jetés or graceful port de bras, you are tapping into a tradition that goes back to the elegant waltz and stately minuet!
I just adore finding the links between ballet history and our modern-day styles. That's what makes it so much more exciting, my dears! It makes our passion so much deeper, richer and oh-so very vibrant!
But let’s get back to the Viennese waltz…
Think of the gentle rise and fall, the swirling movement of a dress as it gracefully moves around the room!
I can just see it all, a vision of romantic elegance and breathtaking beauty!
But enough of fantasising. Let's talk about more practical matters. If you’re attending an elegant ball, or maybe just want to feel like a princess as you glide around your own drawing room, what’s better than a gorgeous tutu? Whether it's a pale pink satin for an evening of dancing with friends or a vivid, bubblegum pink for a party in the spotlight – you simply must get your tutu on. A pink tutu will not only make your own dance look like it was born in a fairytale, but also transport you straight into the elegance of another era.
Don’t forget my darling dancers, I will be blogging regularly, I can't wait to hear what you think! Do pop over to my Instagram and see what other treats my Ballet Time Travel Scrapbook holds, my little lovelies! Don't forget to take a peek at my dance fashion blog! I have an amazing pink silk tulle for sale, the perfect match for any dancer looking for that glamorous edge!
Remember, ladies! If you dream it, you can dance it.
Until next time,
Emma xx
