Pink Tutu Travels: Post #1717: January 1st, 1804!

Helloooo, darling ballet bunnies! It’s your favourite pink tutu-clad time traveller, Emma, here, reporting live from...wait for it...January 1st, 1804!

How fabulous is that? We've travelled all the way back to the start of a new year, a brand new century, and trust me, I'm feeling as bubbly as a freshly opened bottle of champagne!

First off, let's talk about my trusty steed, Magic Meg! Isn't she simply divine? A magnificent pink sparkle-coated Shire horse with golden hooves, she's a vision, especially when her white mane and tail flutter in the wind. I must say, navigating through the cobbled streets of this era can be a little bumpy, but with Magic Meg, I feel like I'm gliding through time itself!

And oh my, darling, the fashion! My leather rucksack, stuffed with tulle, ribbons, and sequins, feels like it's overflowing with potential! Today's journey, you see, is a veritable feast for the senses, with lace, velvet, and flowing fabrics everywhere. We're in a time where grand ball gowns and opulent embellishments reigned supreme, and the ladies wore their ruffles and frills with a touch of panache. Imagine a symphony of pastel colours, exquisite embroidery, and a sheer dash of ...well...pink, naturally!

But of course, this wouldn't be a Pink Tutu Travel blog if we weren't talking ballet. The ballet world, as you'll discover, is brimming with intriguing historical whispers this year, so grab your feather boas and prepare for a thrilling whirl through the decades!

As I saddle up with Magic Meg, ready to travel back in time, let's explore some exciting events happening in the world of ballet on this momentous date:

1) The Birth of the Russian Ballet

A new era of ballet was dawning across the globe! Although the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow wouldn't open its doors until later that year, the first ballet school in Russia had already been established in St. Petersburg back in 1738, under Empress Anna Ioannovna's reign. It's amazing how such important ballet developments were unfolding while we were enjoying our Christmas mince pies back in Derbyshire! The seeds of this ballet tradition are blossoming in Russia, paving the way for legendary dancers, magnificent performances, and... well... who knows what kind of fabulous tutu trends we'll encounter in the future!

2) Ballet In Europe: Beyond the Stage

While Europe buzzes with the energy of ballrooms, you wouldn't have caught sight of professional ballerinas outside of a theatre or court. The social dance was still the order of the day. Ballet wasn't just a professional art form, it was an accomplishment, a mark of aristocracy and social grace. Ballet class was something that elegant ladies, adorned with the most exquisite bonnets, would gracefully participate in, and perhaps showcase their refined moves during grand balls.

3) Tutus? Hmm... Not Quite!

Let's face it, dear friends, our modern-day ballerina tutus are a world away from what the ladies were dancing in during this period! The Romantic Era, known for its elegance and delicacy, wouldn't fully bloom for several decades yet. The fashion trends in ballet reflected this more serious, traditional approach. Ballet gowns were quite elaborate, full of long flowing skirts and detailed designs, quite unlike the shorter tutus we know and love!

Imagine, darling, a world where ballerinas are clothed in a multitude of billowing fabrics. Perhaps this inspires you to dream up a fashion journey of your own?

Today, my dear ballet bunnies, we’re experiencing a captivating slice of history, an era filled with captivating social customs, theatrical enchantments, and the promise of a budding ballet empire across Europe! With my pink tutu gleaming under the dazzling sunshine, I feel like a veritable ballerina princess embarking on an adventure worthy of the greatest ballet tales! Isn't time travel a dream come true, darlings?

* Until next time, keep dancing with that pink tutu spirit! *

* Your forever-fabulous time-travelling blogger, * * Emma xoxo*
