Post Number 1782: A Dance Through Time - 6th June 1809

Hello darlings! It's Emma here, and I'm back with another installment of my adventures through time, all in my beloved pink tutu, of course! This month, we're twirling back to June 6th, 1809, a date brimming with excitement in the world of ballet! And who better to guide us through this time-traveling journey than your favourite pink-loving, tutu-wearing ballerina blogger, me!

I'm always on the lookout for exciting ballet history tidbits to share with you all. As a proud Derbyshirian, I'm quite fond of the stories of dancers from my own neck of the woods, like the renowned Fanny Elssler, who debuted as a ballerina in Vienna around this very time, although she was born a long way from our Peak District!

So grab your favourite cup of tea and a delicious biscuit, dear readers, and let's slip on our imaginary pink tutus for a little time travel adventure, together with my trusty pink sparkly shire steed, Magic Meg. She’s a beauty, isn’t she? Golden hooves and a white mane and tail, She’s perfectly in keeping with my style, as she understands my desire to embrace the dazzling and the pink, wherever and whenever we go.

Our journey takes us to Vienna, the beating heart of European ballet in 1809

Vienna, Austria was buzzing with creativity and innovation, particularly when it came to dance! We’ve left our home in England behind (but don’t worry, we'll be back soon) and are off to Vienna, the center of the ballet world at that time, to see the brilliance of Fanny Elssler. Imagine – young, fresh, full of fire – she burst onto the dance scene here and captured the world’s heart. They say her beauty, elegance, and captivating performance, particularly in ā€œLa Cachuchaā€, was a real game-changer! She would go on to dance for some of the biggest stars in the world. I mean, seriously, who can resist the glamour and sophistication of a ballerina gracefully flitting across the stage, all in pink, of course, with the vibrant energy of Spanish dance. You might call it a magical blend!

Collecting a treasure: Ballet fashion from the era!

But you know I just love fashion, and even more, vintage ballet fashion! I’ve made my way to Vienna, my rucksack full of anticipation! It’s a vintage ballerina’s paradise. While I’m in the Austrian capital, I absolutely have to visit the Theater am KƤrntnertor, Vienna State Opera, which is not only known for its architecture, but has held many exciting performances. Even in the 1800s, there were some of the greatest dancers on the planet performing here! As we wander around the beautiful Viennese streets, I find myself stopping at some of the boutiques specializing in elaborate, flowing silk gowns. Imagine delicate tulle layers, light as air and perfect for graceful movements – all in my beloved pink of course!

I think my ballet history collection will get a major upgrade from the lovely clothes I found. A fabulous little frilly pink dance tunic! A few hand-painted fan and silk dance accessories are making my heart flutter! Just you wait – my dear readers, these are going to be the highlight of my collection and they’re a real must for my readers to inspire your own ballerina outfits.

*And remember, pink is a colour for all seasons – don't just save it for the summer! *

As always, dear readers, my message is that "ballet is for everyone" – it's about passion, dedication and joy. So let’s not forget that we can be the stars of our own shows and dance for joy and happiness - don't forget that you don’t need a theatre stage for that! Put on your favourite music, a sparkly tutu, or just spin and twirl! Dance wherever you may be. Pink makes the world go round and who better to inspire us than the amazing Fanny Elssler? She is an absolute dancing icon for me, and a fabulous example of women in the arts in 1809!

The next stop on our time-travel journey will be full of new adventures and inspiration - it’s a real secret! But I’ll share all about it soon. Until then, darling readers, keep twirling in pink tutus and dreaming of ballet. And if you'd like to join me on this journey, please pop by www.pink-tutu.com, I can't wait to read your comments!

See you all soon!

Emma
