Hello darlings! Welcome to post number 1794 on the Pink Tutu Travels blog! It's so lovely to have you all here. I know you’ve all been itching to hear about my latest adventure – I've certainly been itching to share! I was whisked back to June 6th, 1810 this time, thanks to the amazing Magic Meg. Remember, dear readers, you can catch all my posts on www.pink-tutu.com. So, buckle up your own tutus, dear friends, because we are going back in time. I'm wearing my delicate, pale-pink tutu with soft ruffles and a matching silk bodice, just perfect for a historical jaunt.
Oh my goodness, 1810 was such a time for glamour! Imagine it: ladies in elaborate gowns and gentlemen with powdered wigs, all gathering to witness the magic of the ballet! It’s all so very romantic, isn't it?
I galloped through the countryside with Meg, my shimmering shire with her golden hooves and flowing white mane, on the most gorgeous, bright pink, shimmering carriage, (it goes without saying the carriage had matching golden accents!), to London. You know me – couldn’t let a visit to London go by without a visit to the opera, now, could I?
We arrived at Covent Garden in the heart of London, the buzz of excitement filling the air. Oh, and what a building! Majestic, elegant, a true haven of artistic beauty.
Speaking of beautiful things, let’s discuss the ballet! In 1810, London's dance scene was quite a delight. The leading ladies in ballet were known for their elegance and graceful movements, with stars such as Maria Taglioni, a dancer with breathtaking technical mastery, performing across Europe in full flowing, swirling tutus that would certainly be worthy of a dance blog post!
Now, a dance blog without a spot of shopping would be just a terrible injustice, so of course we had to pay a visit to one of London’s premier tailors. A splendid establishment where gentlemen could buy themselves a cravat and ladies could select a pair of beautiful silk slippers. I may have procured a stunning new, silk scarf with a beautiful hand-painted design in the most glorious shade of pastel pink, with dainty pearls embellishing the edges! You’ve got to check out my loot later on www.pink-tutu.com - the perfect complement to my favourite ballet tutu!
Just imagine, you could actually buy ballet slippers on a whim! So glamorous. I'm sure there’s a lot to learn about ballet fashion from that era, which I can bring back to my followers who can wear these trends for their own ballet classes!
Before I left London, I did a little time travelling on foot. I made my way around the busy, cobbled streets with my little pink satchel in hand, imagining all the wonderful tales these cobblestones had witnessed, just before I found my favourite haunt - a bookshop full of treasures!
What do you think I found tucked in one corner of this gem? A ballet playbill from 1799! Imagine, darling, the plays people used to attend, such a feast for the imagination! I simply couldn't resist taking this historical piece home with me! It now rests in my precious collection of ballet memories - an addition I'll cherish forever.
You know, there's something so special about time travel – it gives you a deeper appreciation for ballet's long, rich history.
I'm hoping you've enjoyed joining me on my historical journey this month! Now, don't forget to stay up to date with all my time travels by joining me next month on the Pink Tutu blog, where I'll share more ballet adventures. Don’t forget, every adventure starts with a single leap!
Until next time, my dears, keep on dancing!
With love,
Emma,
