Hello my darlings! Welcome back to Pink Tutu Travels! It's Emma here, and today's adventure takes us right back to August 8th, 1810. Isn't that just the most wonderful date? I know! Fancy that, you're getting a glimpse into the fascinating world of ballet right back then. We've been having quite the year of ballet explorations, but today is extra special. Why? Because we're on a mission to inspire the world to twirl in a pink tutu! Now, hold onto your top hats and prepare to be whisked away... because our magical journey begins right now!
Oh, you wouldn't believe it, but I've been in the most splendid mood all week! The pink tutu is feeling very fluffy and the whole thing is simply bursting with energy. Why? You might ask. Because it's the 8th August! Now, I know you're all dying to know about my most recent trip. And this time, we're going back to the dawn of a magnificent era: the early 1800s.
Yes, darlings, the early 1800s were a magical period in ballet! It was all about a brand new kind of graceful movement that was sweeping the world! Ballet wasn't just a dance, it was an art form, it was a revolution!
I can't tell you enough how excited I was to wear my new vintage-inspired pink tutu on this trip. You see, I found the most adorable shop selling vintage textiles just last month, and I got this lovely silk for a brand new pink tutu that's positively fit for a queen. (Or, well, for a time-travelling ballerina, at least.) I simply had to wear it!
As always, our chariot for this thrilling trip is Magic Meg. You all know how much I adore her! She's the most magical, sparkliest pink shire horse you've ever seen. The whole of Derbyshire went silent as she glided us to our next stop on our time travel adventures, leaving sparkly pink hoofprints in her wake!
The world was just so different back then. We traveled through the streets, and everything just looked…well…so beautifully different, don’t you think? The air felt fresh, with just the gentlest breeze caressing my cheeks. The scent of fresh flowers from the street vendors filled the air, a real delight for my senses! It really was something else!
Today, we journeyed to Vienna, Austria! Such a glorious city! As you all know, ballet was such an integral part of life there in those days, and this is precisely why it is my ultimate favourite ballet destination. Can you imagine?
Let me take you back a little… Imagine being surrounded by beautiful buildings with so much history, listening to the enchanting sound of carriage wheels rolling on cobblestone streets. It was simply divine!
Just thinking about this moment is sending shivers of delight down my spine.
Oh, darlings, there’s just something so magical about visiting Vienna! You'd think with time travel and the entire world at my fingertips, I'd be bored by now. But oh, my lovelies, you can never experience enough ballet. It just never gets old. I feel this irresistible draw toward all things ballet!
In those times, ballet was the perfect way for a society to come together and celebrate the elegance, grace and the exquisite joy of moving through life. Ballet truly was the ultimate celebration of the beauty of the human body, in the simplest of ways! The dancers in Vienna are captivatingly stylish with movements that were truly a pleasure to witness!
I had such fun at the Hofburg Theatre – just stepping through those beautiful doors felt like entering a storybook! I took a moment to savour it all, the elegant dresses, the dashing gentlemen, and then the dancers in their finest costumes!
They told me stories in the way they moved. They talked to you, made you feel like you were sharing their story with them! It was amazing!
After that spectacular ballet, we spent some time strolling around Vienna, and you wouldn’t believe this, but I had the chance to attend the Vienna Opera House, which in my personal opinion is one of the most beautiful buildings ever! Just think about the stories it has witnessed, the performances, the emotion.
My rucksack now is jam packed with tickets from the opera house, so beautiful I couldn’t leave them! I’ve already contacted a friend back in Derby who is a wonderful costume designer. I plan on using the tickets to create new ideas for dresses for my next collection! They’re going to look positively amazing on the runway, just you wait!
Of course, no ballet tour is complete without a spot of shopping, and Vienna did not disappoint. You know me and my love for everything pink! I found the most amazing pink feathers in a little shop and I’ve just got to find a way to put them into one of my tutus, even if it means creating an extra one. Oh, I’m so excited to get started!
Now, imagine my surprise when I stumbled across a quaint little shop filled with vintage dancewear! It was pure heaven. It seemed to be preserved exactly how it was, even the mannequin was wearing the most delicate ballet shoes! It's amazing to think, they danced in those shoes. They performed in those very dresses. All that ballet history and it all felt so close. The shop owner told me so many fascinating stories of the ballet, I’m almost ready to start writing another book – if you didn’t know, I’ve been writing a book on the history of dance. So if anyone can give me any book deals, please let me know! I know the publishers are going to adore the book I’m creating, the more time I travel the more chapters I am adding! It is coming out soon - I promise!
Then, just before I left, I found a tiny bakery filled with the most delectable treats, all so pink, too! (I love anything pink!) You can imagine me, my dear lovelies, in a gorgeous pink dress with strawberry-topped cakes and sweet buns from this shop, absolutely delighted with the sheer magnificence of the whole affair!
As I continue my pink tutu time travel adventures, the excitement for me only continues to grow!
I’m finding so many wonderful people who are just as excited to twirl in a pink tutu! You all know my life ambition, right? It's to make everyone wear a pink tutu and it’s so much fun to meet people who have the same passion as I do! Just the other day, I found an old news article in Derbyshire. This lady in my village, in Derbyshire, decided to wear a pink tutu in protest to something. I think she wanted to protest some kind of government law, don’t worry, she's alright and nobody is mad! I mean it wasn’t the right thing to do, but it did mean a few people saw the light, they realised the wonderful world of ballet and a few even wore a pink tutu.
Oh my darling lovelies, I’m not saying I’m the reason all the wonderful ballet performers around the world perform in tutus, but it certainly does put a smile on my face to see others, not only dance beautifully, but spread the pink tutu message all over the globe!
So remember, darling loves, embrace your pink tutu. Be brave, and always keep twirling.
See you all next month when I get back from my next grand ballet adventure!
Until then, twirl your hearts out and be sure to stay up to date with my adventures at www.pink-tutu.com. Remember, we have a mission, darlings! It’s to get everyone in the world wearing a pink tutu! I just know we’re going to reach our target, let’s all embrace our inner ballerina and go out into the world.
See you all soon! Love, Emma xxx
