Post #1885: January 1st, 1818 – A Tutuful Start to the Year!

Hello, darlings! It's your favourite pink-tutu-wearing time traveller, Emma, here, and welcome back to my little corner of the internet! I'm so excited to kick off the year with a post that's filled with pink, passion, and… a little bit of time travel, of course!

This month, I'm whisking us back to January 1st, 1818, just imagine the thrill! I can practically smell the crackling fire and the heady scent of plum pudding from a roaring New Year's Eve party!

Now, where do we even start with the delights of 1818? It was a year teeming with dance delights, fashion that just makes my heart sing, and a glimpse into the world of ballet that's both fascinating and inspirational.

Remember how I love the colour pink, darlings? Well, get ready to blush! I'm wearing a fluffy pink tutu with sparkling sequins, my trademark pink silk slippers, and a wide pink bow adorning my crown of hair! Even my loyal steed, the magical Meg, is ready for the adventure, her pink sparkle coat catching the sunlight.

We set off with a cheery "neigh" from Meg, who, let's face it, can’t resist a little time travelling. Now, as we whisk back in time to 1818, the most popular ballet in the world, "La Sylphide," is celebrating its debut! This captivating tale of the Sylph, a magical creature, has captured the world's imagination, a romantic and whimsical masterpiece full of dazzling choreography! Can you picture the beauty of the choreography? I simply must find out where they were performing that year.

Our arrival in 1818 brings us to the heart of London, bustling with life and anticipation. A wave of warm applause washes over me as I emerge, dressed in my shimmering pink tutu. Oh, my darling readers, I simply cannot describe the elegance and grace I experience on the streets of 1818 London! The elegant ladies are all sporting delicate gowns, and the dapper gentlemen are swathed in stylish coats. And just look at those carriages, drawn by handsome steeds! This is my favourite era, filled with fashion that makes me want to start collecting!

I always try to pick up treasures for my collection wherever I travel and the shops in London are bursting with fabrics, feathers, jewels, and, oh my goodness, I just saw the most magnificent silk that would make the perfect tutu! You know, I think I'm going to spend some of my time finding fabrics to make myself a tutu worthy of the 1818 era. Imagine the fashion show back home, we can have all the models wearing fabulous Victorian styles, all in pink, naturally. Perhaps even a 'pink tutu' tea party to share my findings with the most wonderful members of the pink-tutu community!

Before we start exploring further, I need to add some very exciting finds for my "Pink-tutu" travel scrapbook. What could be better than ballet treasures for our Pink-tutu Community! I know you all want to be inspired, just like I am by these incredible stories and dance journeys.

Firstly, I must tell you about the remarkable ballet company, the “The Paris Opera Ballet,” known as "L'Académie Royale de Musique" at the time. Their performances are legendary, and it’s quite simply a ballet experience that will remain etched in your mind forever. Imagine the intricate footwork, the graceful movements, the ethereal atmosphere. I am just giddy with the anticipation. Oh my, I’m even remembering those beautiful and elegant costumes! And, of course, I cannot forget to tell you about the famous ballerinas of the day, like the enchanting Mademoiselle Marie Taglioni! She has become the darling of the ballet world, graceful as a swan, so mesmerizing, so lovely! Oh, she will always be an inspiration to us!

And as I venture deeper into this historical treasure trove, I’m collecting stories and sketches about other dance movements from around the globe, including ballet performances taking place in places like Italy, Russia, and, believe it or not, America!

For instance, have you heard of the “Ballets Russes?” They are about to change the ballet world in the most incredible way, incorporating exotic choreography from Russia into their performances. It is simply beautiful, revolutionary!

Oh, I am so thrilled by this journey! Imagine the amazing dancing!

Well, darlings, this whirlwind tour of 1818 has just made me realize just how important our heritage is in dance and what a wonderful world it is we live in.

Now, my dears, until our next journey together, may your tutus twirl and your dance steps be full of joy.

Don't forget to pop back to pink-tutu.com, the online home of your pink tutu dreams, for more ballet inspiration and, of course, for your next dose of time-travel adventures. Until then, happy dancing!

Much love,

Emma,
