Pink Tutu Time Travels - Post #1929 - September 9th, 1821!

Hello darlings! It's your favourite pink tutu wearing ballerina, Emma, here, and welcome back to my little corner of the internet! Today, we're whizzing back to a delightful September 9th in 1821! Did you know, in this year, there were lots of ballet highlights happening across Europe?

Hold onto your bonnets because we're off on an adventure with my darling, sparkling shire, Magic Meg! Her golden hooves are already gleaming in anticipation, and her white mane and tail are practically fluttering with excitement! I've got my pinkest, fluffiest tutu packed, my trusty leather rucksack ready for collecting ballet stories, and my little heart is full of the magic of dancing.

My journey this month begins in glorious Paris, which, as you know, was the ballet hub of the world during this time. A fabulous young ballet dancer named Carlotta Grisi had already started to create a buzz on the Paris stage! This adorable little ballerina was born in Italy, and even though she was only about 18 years old, her talents were recognised by all! Her amazing lightness and elegance just captivated everyone.

There are actually two fascinating bits of ballet news surrounding Carlotta on September 9th! Firstly, she starred in the Parisian premiere of La Jolie Fille, a gorgeous ballet by Jean Coralli. Can you imagine?! This little starlet already making her mark in a new ballet. Can't we just picture her flitting across the stage in her sparkly pink tutu, enchanting everyone in the theatre with her dazzling talent? It truly makes me dream!

But the other story connected with Carlotta that day is even more exciting! She and the magnificent Jean-Pierre Aumer, the King of Ballet himself, performed together at a big grand ball given for King Louis XVIII! It must have been magical to see the King of France captivated by Carlotta and Aumer's graceful steps and breathtaking artistry! Just think of the elegant swirls of tulle as they danced beneath the sparkling chandeliers! And can you imagine the decadent refreshments, with champagne flowing and music filling the air?

Next, we journey to Vienna! It’s well known that Viennese society adored the grand, formal elegance of court balls. Imagine, this elegant gathering would be held in a beautiful, grand hall. Perhaps a palace like Schönbrunn Palace, where dancing and socialising go hand-in-hand with beautiful dresses, glittering jewellery, and witty conversation. It’s here, in this Viennese ballroom, we find a magnificent ballet taking place – a delightful, romantic scene unfolding with ballerinas in delicate, romantic tutus dancing amidst a flurry of ribbons and light!

Across the ocean, ballet is starting to blossom in America! There were even performances held by foreign ballet dancers. For instance, the Italian ballerina Giuseppina Ciacchi danced in America in September 1821, enchanting the audiences of Philadelphia and New York. Just picture the excitement, and the sheer joy, on the faces of these American audiences! It's like the dream of dancing has swept over the globe. It fills me with joy!

Let’s hop on Magic Meg again! We'll whiz off to Russia! Here, ballet is blossoming and growing increasingly more refined! But what could possibly be happening on September 9th, 1821, in the land of Tsar Nicholas I?

There's no question, that Russian ballet, known for its exquisite technique and elegant expression, has an allure like no other! We could spend days here watching a captivating show and soaking up the energy of this ballet wonderland. Just picture those glorious ballet costumes - beautifully crafted, detailed tutus, so flowing and beautiful - that they take our breath away!

Let’s gallop along to Italy now! A land of passion and beauty, where dancing was seen as a magical gift from the gods, so it's only right that we delve a little deeper into the enchanting world of Italian ballet. I can’t imagine a date better to explore this captivating country than September 9th. This is where some of the very best Italian ballerinas shone. And of course, I always love seeing Italy through the eyes of my tutu!

Oh, my darlings! Isn't it magical how ballet seems to bind us together? Like a little pink thread, bringing all our lives closer to those beautiful moments from history!
