Welcome back to my Pink Tutu Travels, my lovely ballet-loving darlings! This month, I've whisked myself back to the 10th October, 1822, a day filled with romance and, of course, the divine ballet. As usual, I'm wearing my trusty pink tutu - this one's a rather splendid number with shimmering silver sequins - and my rucksack is bursting with delightful bits and bobs from this fascinating era. So, grab your fanciest pink tiaras and let's take a waltz through time!
Magical Meg and the Parisian Scene:
Our adventure this month starts in the glorious city of Paris! You see, my dearest magical steed, Meg - that sparkling pink Shire with the golden hooves and flowing white mane - galloped me right through a hidden Parisian alleyway straight into the world of 19th-century French ballet. I simply adore Parisian charm - those cobbled streets, the smell of fresh pastries, and, oh my, the elegant gowns! My favourite place to find a stylish French tutu, of course, is Le Theatre de l’Opéra.
And just what was going on at Le Theatre de l’Opéra on this very day? Oh, darling, it was Romeo et Juliette, one of the most beautiful and dramatic ballet stories ever told! Just imagine the elegant costumes, the captivating music, and the passionate dancers as they told the tale of love, loss, and tragedy.
Now, my ballet-mad dears, I simply adore a little ballet trivia. And can you imagine what year Romeo et Juliette premiered? Why, a mere 10 years before our present journey! Ballet was just beginning to find its feet as an art form back then.
A Glimpse into the Ballet World:
On my journey, I learned that in the world of 1822 ballet, the waltz was the dance craze. The ladies would swirl around the dance floors, their petticoats billowing, creating a graceful, twirling tableau that must have been absolutely captivating.
Oh, the dance schools were also flourishing! They were teaching girls (and sometimes boys) everything they needed to know to become brilliant dancers. My rucksack now contains a delightful old French ballet book filled with dance instructions from 1822 - pure artistry! I must share these graceful techniques with you all, so keep your eyes peeled on my website.
The Power of Pink and Fashionable Finds:
You might be surprised to learn, darling, that pink wasn't quite the fashionable favourite back in 1822. You see, rose and carnation were considered the most fashionable colours, and guess what? It's practically pink!
My heart fluttered when I saw some exquisite ladies in the most delightful carnation coloured ball gowns. I know my dear Meg won't mind if I take some notes for our Pink-Tutu Fashion Corner, especially about their elaborate hairstyles and sparkling jewelry. I can't help thinking how fabulous our modern tutus would look with those carnation coloured ribbons and bows! Imagine the combination!
Bringing the Past into the Present:
Every journey brings me new inspiration for my own ballet choreography. The sheer passion for ballet I've witnessed in 1822 is absolutely infectious. It makes me want to run back to the present and dance until my toes tap a symphony!
My Lovely Pink-Tutu Fans!
You can follow me at www.pink-tutu.com and, if you'd like to be a guest on my next Pink-Tutu Travels, simply let me know! Perhaps you could give me suggestions for my next ballet time travel. Where should we visit next? Paris again, perhaps? Or Vienna? I love seeing your suggestions.
Till next month, my sweet ballet darlings, remember: there is always magic in the air, especially when it comes to dancing and wearing a pink tutu!
XOXO,
Emma
