Hello my lovely ballet bunnies!
Welcome back to Pink-Tutu.com, where every month, we hop on the back of Magic Meg, my beautiful pink-sparkling Shire horse with golden hooves, and whisk off to a different point in ballet history!
This month, I’m pulling back the curtain on January 1st, 1826, and trust me, darling, it’s a date full of intrigue!
Now, before we step into the time-warp, grab a glass of pink lemonade, put on your fanciest tutu (even if it's just a fluffy pink dressing gown, darling!), and let's dive into the world of ballet, shall we?
A Derbyshire Lass's Journey to the Past:
Good morning from my little cottage in Derbyshire, darlings! I've just popped on my extra-sparkly pink tutu for today's journey.
Yes, you heard that right! We're going back in time - all the way to 1826! I just know I'll find some fabulous vintage fashion for my ballet wardrobe! I imagine tutus are already gaining a bit more fabric then - away with the scant costumes! Maybe I'll even find some amazing ballet shoes to add to my collection.
You know me - I’m always on the hunt for a bargain. Just a quick note: if you find any old ballet shoes from that era in your attic, let me know! They'll be worth a pretty penny - you can’t go wrong with vintage, my darlings!
Magic Meg is Ready!
Oh, the anticipation is building, and Magic Meg is just itching to get going.
I’ve filled my trusty leather rucksack with my sketching pad, pencil crayons and my favourite vintage book on ballet. I've got my vintage binoculars too - you know me, I just adore catching a glimpse of the stars from the past! You're in for a treat, lovelies - you wouldn't believe the ballet performances I’m going to be telling you about!
Hold tight! We’re going to 1826…
What's on in the World of Ballet in 1826?
Right, ladies, we’ve arrived. Can you smell the excitement in the air? The world of ballet in 1826 is buzzing!
Here’s what we’re finding in our 1826 travel guide…
Firstly, the most fabulous new opera house, La Scala, in Milan was in full swing, bringing a dazzling line-up of ballets to Italy's passionate ballet-lovers! Imagine the sheer delight! Imagine, if you will, watching a performance from your front-row seat. My head would probably be in my hands - I just can't imagine the grandeur and the sheer spectacle of a ballet in that amazing era!
Our favourite Marie Taglioni is gracing the stage across Europe! Can you believe that this talented, glamorous star was just 20? Her iconic role in ‘La Sylphide’ is sweeping across the world and changing ballet as we know it! Imagine: white, flowing tulle - she just must have been an absolute dream to watch!
Across the pond, the Paris Opera is bustling with all kinds of ballet magic. Now, ballet’s quite different to our modern ballet - they’re doing more dramatic stuff, focusing more on mime and big stories - like real fairytale drama. I am desperate to see a production! Maybe I can catch a sneak peak at an upcoming ballet as I take in the local ballet shops.
Now, I just must mention, there are rumours of more ballet schools popping up all across Europe! Can you imagine that? Ballet is truly taking off, darlings! The passion for the dance is inspiring people from all walks of life. And they are absolutely dancing with a fierce spirit!
Catching up with a London Ballet Star!
Today is going to be a day of wonder. Now, for the icing on the cake - imagine my excitement as I gallop my way through the English countryside. I just stumbled on a fascinating nugget in my ballet history book: guess who's living a stone's throw from Derbyshire? A true ballet icon: none other than the incredible Marie (otherwise known as Fanny) Cerrito! I simply must pay her a visit. What's a trip to 1826 without meeting the legends! I have a few questions for this dazzling ballerina!
My goodness! What will I ask? How did the audiences react to ballet then? Was it all pink tutus? Oh my darling readers, I promise to share all the secrets she reveals - in my next post. It's all happening in a few weeks - how exciting!
That's All for Now!
Until next time, my lovelies, keep twirling! Don't forget to share this post with your fellow ballet enthusiasts, and let's continue to spread the love for all things pink, fluffy, and fabulously ballet!
Stay tuned for a look into my shopping finds - and more importantly, my visit with the legendary Marie Cerrito!
Love and sparkle,
Emma
