Hello my darlings! Emma here, your pink tutu-clad time traveller, and welcome back to Pink Tutu Travels! It's the 11th November 1833, and Magic Meg and I are all prepped up for another incredible adventure. I'm sporting a darling shade of pink - it's just the right colour for our Parisian outing tonight. We're heading to the grandest soirée of the season, and believe me, my loves, it's going to be divine.
This is blog post number 2075 for Pink Tutu Travels - and just in case you missed the memo, I upload a new post on www.pink-tutu.com every single month! You can find all of my amazing travels, beautiful outfits, and fascinating stories of ballet throughout history. As for tonight's grand affair? Let's just say, I'm expecting exquisite gowns, the most elegant dances, and maybe even a spot of chitchat with the French royalty. After all, the whole point of this trip is to understand ballet history, right? And what better way to do it than to actually experience it, in all its glory!
But before we gallop towards the glittering soirée, let's take a look at what was going on in the world of ballet on this date in history:
11th November 1833
Back in Derbyshire, England (my dear home!), things were all very… English. I'm thinking a cosy village hall dance, maybe a barn dance, with hearty country music. Oh, the joy of a good English polka! You wouldn't catch me dead in a dress like this (let alone wearing a pink tutu!) at the local dance. No, the folks of Derbyshire were more interested in enjoying a hearty stew and a pint of ale at the pub than swirling across a grand dance floor. And you know what, good for them! Each to their own, I say.
But my loves, here in Paris, things are a touch more glamorous! Imagine, a ballet troupe called "Le Ballet du Roi" in a royal ballet hall, shimmering costumes and enchanting choreography! We're talking about ballet history here, my dears! The most intricate of pirouettes, the highest of entrechats… Oh, it's making my feet tap just thinking about it!
Today’s ballet scene is a flurry of movement and excitement. Marie Taglioni, the famous Italian ballerina who practically redefined ballet, was just starting out. Oh, my loves, you’d be speechless if you could have seen her in her glorious white tutu, moving with such effortless grace!
I imagine the scene tonight will be captivating! We're likely to see all the latest ballets: La Sylphide, Giselle, and perhaps even a glimpse of La Bayadère. Imagine, my dears, the romanticism, the beauty, and the utter perfection of it all! The most incredible dancers are in the audience, watching on with hungry eyes and eager critiques, but everyone here knows - knows - how essential my pink tutu is for making a true fashion statement. It is, after all, an important part of making ballet history!
After all, what is a truly successful ballet evening, even in 1833, without the sparkle of a perfectly pink tutu? You can't make history without an essential dose of fabulous pink!
As the day progresses, a whirlwind of excitement begins to build within me. My little pink leather rucksack is prepped and ready for the treasures we're sure to find - programme, theatre ticket, even maybe a ballet slipper or two, perhaps a bit of elegant costume lace, a bit of secret information, who knows! It’s so important to document this experience, and share the secrets of this incredible era!
Magic Meg whinnies softly, a pink spark leaping from her hoof as she stands at the ready. We are all set for this time travel adventure. This is, without a doubt, the night for an extra generous amount of pink sugar in my tea. You see, dear readers, I believe every single night of this adventure should feel special - the journey of Pink Tutu Travels wouldn’t be the same if it wasn’t filled with unbridled enthusiasm!
Just you wait for the photos, my dears! You’ll be wanting a pink tutu of your own after this adventure.
Tomorrow's post, my lovelies: I'm dreaming of an opulent carriage ride in a horse-drawn carriage. And who knows what Pink Tutu Travels will unveil - perhaps I'll even discover the source of my love for all things pink… or perhaps this is the adventure where I learn to sew! I can hardly wait for another dose of fashion inspiration! Remember, the adventures never stop, and the pink tutus are neverending!
