Oh my darlings! Can you believe it? It's time for another exciting time travel adventure! You know how much I love discovering ballet history, and this month, Magic Meg and I are whisking you away to the year 1838.
My pink tutu was positively shimmering with excitement this morning as I saddled my beloved pink sparkling shire horse, Magic Meg. You'd think the sheer magnificence of her white mane and tail and those golden hooves would steal the spotlight, but no! Today, it was all about my tulle! I felt like a living embodiment of ballet dreams!
Before I tell you all about our fabulous adventure, though, I must give you a peek at what my rucksack's overflowing with this month. This time, it's brimming with a truly precious vintage pair of satin ballet shoes from the early Victorian era. The delicate stitching and exquisite silk fabric are a true testament to the craftmanship of the time! You can bet I'll be posting a dedicated piece about them on my blog later.
As for the 5th of May 1838, it's absolutely buzzing with exciting ballet events. I've found an old theatre program from this very day, and you wouldn't believe the lineup! We have the incredibly talented Marie Taglioni in a thrilling performance at the Theatre Royal, Covent Garden. And oh my, wouldn't it be marvellous to be in the audience for the première of "Giselle"?
It's amazing to see how ballet has captured the imagination of audiences around the globe! This incredible art form, so full of grace, artistry, and beauty, continues to be enjoyed, revered, and adored by all. But I'm not just about performances. I want to share all facets of the ballet world, including the fashion! Just imagine, in 1838, a single pair of satin ballet slippers would set a ballerinas back over a year's worth of a typical artisan's earnings! Talk about commitment to your craft!
But I digress... We, and by we, I mean me, of course, along with my fabulous horse Meg, are in 19th-century Derbyshire! What better place to discover the history of ballet? The rolling green hills are positively calling out for a pirouette! You can't really picture a ballet dancer whirling across a vibrant, rolling landscape, but I assure you, Meg and I are fully committed to sharing these historical discoveries!
My lovely blog readers, I’m feeling inspired to embrace every ounce of the magic in this era. Every corner I turn feels like a chapter waiting to be unveiled. So let's set off on a journey of discovery together, shall we?
Remember, my mission, and you know this already, darling, is to inspire everyone, EVERY SINGLE PERSON on this beautiful planet to embrace the enchantment of a pink tutu.
Now, if you'll excuse me, I've got an afternoon of exploration, an historical ballet class to attend, and possibly, a delectable vintage tea party to experience, all before dinner. Be sure to join me next month as I uncover even more magical secrets of ballet history.
Happy twirling!
Yours, in pink and pointe,
Emma
