Post 2179: The Belle Epoque Bows & the Glory of Giselle

Hello my darling dears! Emma here, your favourite tutu-clad time-traveller. Today, I'm waltzing back to July the 7th, 1842, with Magic Meg at my side, a glint of sunshine dancing in her golden hooves.

The air crackles with anticipation! It's the summer season and London's humming with excitement. Theatres are bursting with vibrant colours, the smell of lavender hangs in the air, and oh! I do love London in July! The Queen, herself a lover of all things elegant, is leading the trend for fashion. We're talking bustles, bonnets and ruffles, with just a touch of a bohemian feel in the air - just like the perfect ballet costume!

Speaking of costumes, darling, the latest sensation is 'Giselle,' a heart-wrenching ballet about a peasant girl who dances herself to death for love. My oh my, this performance is like a box of exquisite chocolates, so delicately crafted, filled with such a tragic romance that I, for one, always find myself reaching for the tissues! The ballet has just finished its run at Her Majesty's Theatre, leaving everyone completely enraptured. They are already raving about the sublime Carlotta Grisi in the lead role - she's truly a sight to behold, light and graceful like a wisp of silk!

Now, let's talk about something fabulous! The ballet scene in Paris, our beloved Parisian ballet home, is a little quieter. The Opera House is prepping for the next season, but whispers of a new choreographic genius are making their way around the city. It seems a young man by the name of Marius Petipa has arrived in the city, and word on the street is he's something rather special, a bit like a magical, graceful dance sprinkled with fairy dust! I'm certain this is a talent we should be watching.

As for myself, dear dears, I spent the evening in the heart of Derbyshire, at the charming Matlock Bath. My favourite thing? Well, imagine a lovely little performance space - like a delightful drawing room with chandeliers, where talented young dancers, all beautifully attired in the most fetching tutus you've ever seen, are demonstrating their exquisite steps to the strains of the piano. A simple yet delightful performance for a group of local admirers โ€“ just magical!

Remember to grab a nice cuppa and join me next month, where we will be whisking back in time for another magical adventure! And always, darling dears, remember that every day is a chance to wear pink, to twirl like a ballerina, and to let your heart be as free and open as the dance!

Until next time,

Your loving Tutu Traveller, Emma xx
