Pink Tutu Time Travels: A Ballet Bonanza in 1845!

Hello darlings!

Welcome back to Pink Tutu Time Travels, where history comes alive in a flurry of pink tulle and shimmering sequins. Today, my fabulous friends, we're setting our time machine to 2nd February 1845! Grab your fanciest pink tutu, saddle up on Magic Meg, our sparkling shire horse, and let's gallop through time!

This month's adventure sees me galloping into a time of ballet bonanzas and theatrical triumphs. And trust me, dear readers, this was a year full of exciting ballet developments!

1845 - A Year of Ballerina Blooms!

The year 1845 was an absolute feast for the ballet world. It was a time when some of the most iconic ballerinas were at the height of their fame. I can just imagine them twirling in their lavish costumes, the audiences mesmerised by their graceful artistry. Imagine, dear readers, you've travelled back in time to this year - imagine a performance by Fanny Cerrito, the epitome of grace and elegance, dancing alongside the talented and beloved Carlotta Grisi, or being captivated by the dramatic talents of Lucile Grahn!

The sheer volume of ballet performances taking place across Europe is truly astonishing! In Russia, the Bolshoi Theatre was flourishing with premieres and beloved revivals, and there was even the exciting opening of the Mikhailovsky Theatre in St. Petersburg - talk about ballet on the rise! Over in Paris, the iconic Opéra de Paris, the centre of the ballet world, was buzzing with innovative new ballets and stunning displays of technique and artistry. The theatre was abuzz with ballet-crazed enthusiasts, all vying for the best seats. It was truly an era of captivating, artistic achievements.

My Time Travel Fashion Inspiration

This trip back in time has provided some phenomenal fashion inspiration! In 1845, the dancers were pushing boundaries in ballet attire. They were sporting lavish gowns, glimmering sequins, and an abundance of beautiful, delicate fabrics, all meticulously chosen to enhance their graceful movements and accentuate their stunning figures. You can tell just by looking at them that every movement was a meticulously-designed showcase.

As for me, my wardrobe was brimming with all things pink! I spotted some darling dresses - a blush pink ballgown with layered tulle, perfectly fit for a fancy theatre premiere, and a sweet cotton dress adorned with charming pastel-toned ribbons, ideal for strolling the Parisian streets, all paired with a pink satin ballet shoe and, of course, a gorgeous tutu that would make even a ballerina blush. I’ve packed these beauties into my trusty leather rucksack alongside an elaborate 19th-century ballet program and a fascinating diary entry from a ballerina herself, all to share with you later in the blog.

London’s Ballet Blitz

This time travel adventure has taken me all over, from London's lively theatres to the heart of Parisian elegance! In London, I watched in wonder as dancers gracefully pirouetted across the stages of Covent Garden Theatre, witnessing the premiere of The Seven Champions of Christendom, an epic spectacle featuring some eye-catching choreography!

Just picturing those breathtaking ballets brings back such joy and awe - I could watch them for hours on end. Of course, with every new adventure, comes an increase in my desire to share these exciting journeys and inspire you all!
