Hello darlings! Emma here, back with another exciting voyage through the magical world of ballet history. October is a special month, full of crisp autumnal air and the promise of magical nights at the ballet, so hop on Magic Meg’s back and join me on our time travelling adventure. This time, we're setting our sights on 10th October, 1851 - a day destined to leave a shimmering trail of pink across the ballet world!
Now, let’s take a moment to admire Magic Meg, shall we? My beautiful, sparkling shire, she’s a vision in pink with her golden hooves, white mane and tail, a true embodiment of my love for all things blush. She’s ready to whisk us back through time, so hold on tight to your tutus!
We've landed in London, 1851, and a buzz of excitement is in the air. The Great Exhibition is in full swing, showcasing the best of science, engineering, and yes, even dance! Fancy that, ballet as a form of engineering – who knew?
I’m always fascinated by the way fashion evolves. Right now, the crinoline is taking the world by storm. It’s a beautiful, billowing piece of feminine fashion that has truly changed how ladies move and dance. Can you imagine wearing a massive, structured skirt whilst performing? Now that’s a true test of a ballerina’s grace. I'd love to give it a whirl. Maybe in the future, a fusion of ballet and 1850s fashions will hit the stage. It would be absolutely stunning!
10th October: Dancing on the Edge of a New EraBut back to our date, 10th October, 1851. On this day, the Italian dancer and choreographer, Carlo Blasis, a true pioneer in ballet history, is preparing for a new adventure. He's heading back to Paris after a tour across Europe, bringing with him a treasure trove of knowledge and new ideas. You know, darling, I can practically see the spark in his eyes as he plans to revolutionise the French ballet scene!
Imagine the world stage then: Paris, the capital of romance and artistic excellence, pulsating with anticipation. Here, on the eve of great change, Mr. Blasis brings fresh choreography and a new way of teaching dance. I bet it's just bursting with innovation, just like those exciting new creations that we see emerging every year on our contemporary stages today.
I just had to stop by a grand London bookstore, of course, where I purchased a lovely volume on the history of ballet, my backpack bulging with its promise of more inspiring ballet tales. There's nothing I love more than immersing myself in the tales of dancers past - each one a testament to the enduring power and grace of ballet.
The atmosphere here is exhilarating, I can sense that the dance world is on the cusp of something brilliant. A world filled with beautiful new dance moves, magnificent tutus, and captivating stories spun on the stage. Just picture it - a ballet production inspired by the Great Exhibition itself! I’d wear the most exquisite blush tulle gown, trimmed with glittering crystals, a visual masterpiece to complement the technological marvels on display. The imagination takes flight!
Now, darling, I’m going to put my new tutu-tastic pink shoes back on - yes, you read that right, I just acquired a pair from a quaint shop around the corner – and try out a few of the moves Carlo Blasis used in his teaching. The 19th century has inspired some wonderful ballet steps. A few twists and turns in my blush tulle dream dress and it’s almost as if we’ve jumped onto the Parisian stage alongside a dazzling array of ballerinas in their elegant, beautifully crafted costumes.
The spirit of the times fills me with energy. And remember, darlings, our journey to inspire the world to embrace the beauty of a pink tutu continues! Join me again next month as I venture deeper into the world of ballet, seeking out more stories, dancing, and breathtaking fashion! And remember, it's not just about the tutu itself - it's about the spirit of passion and creativity that the colour pink represents. So let's spread the pink tutu love, darlings, everywhere we go.
Until next time!
Your forever-pink,
Emma x
