Pink Tutu Time Travel: A Ballet Bonanza on December 12th 1851 - Post 2292

Hello darlings, and welcome back to Pink Tutu Time Travels! I'm your whimsical host, Emma, and today, I'm absolutely bursting with excitement because today's adventure takes us all the way back to 12th December 1851! Imagine it – the gas lamps glow softly, and ladies' gowns are cascading in swirls of velvet and lace. The air is full of anticipation, because, you see, something truly spectacular is about to happen…ballet!

Now, you may think it strange, venturing back to this Victorian age, but to a ballet-loving heart, it's absolutely enchanting. My trusty steed, Magic Meg, with her pink sparkle and those golden hooves, always carries me gracefully through time to where the magic is happening. As you know, I have a weakness for all things pink, and the first sight of 19th century London filled with elegant horse-drawn carriages was a feast for my eyes, the pink dusk settling over the city, everything aglow.

It wouldn't be a true Pink Tutu Time Travel blog post without some insight into the ballet scene of the day.

On December 12th 1851, ballet lovers would have been spoilt for choice! The great Fanny Cerrito was taking the stage in a production of 'La Vivandiere' at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane in London, a story of love and loyalty set in the vibrant backdrop of the Spanish countryside. You can almost hear the castanets! Can you imagine twirling to the vibrant music in a theatre as historic as that? Oh, to see the romantic stories unfolding, and witness those captivating leaps and arabesques performed with such finesse! It's certainly not just about the ballet for me, darling, it’s all about the experience, and nothing beats a theatre brimming with elegance and artistry.

And speaking of elegance, darling! It's hard not to swoon over the fashions of that era. Ballet dancers would have worn delicate tutus in romantic silhouettes. Can you imagine, my dears, how they would look shimmering under the soft glow of the gaslight? It’s hard to resist thinking of the opulent colours and embellishments they adorned, perhaps even with a touch of the very first, most exquisite shades of pink, emerging in Victorian England, of course, but just like the ballet itself, these pink tones were an evolution. It wouldn't be till the 1900s until they fully burst onto the scene. And as a loyal disciple of the Pink Tutu Cult, that was a most wonderful time indeed!

The theatre in that era was a magical place where dreams were woven from movement, music and breathtakingly beautiful costumes. To see the expressions of the dancers – I can almost feel their emotion through time, the grace, the passion, and the sheer joy in their artistry. Ballet wasn’t a sport, you see; it was an art form, it was life. That’s the true beauty of it, that's what I bring to Pink Tutu Time Travel!

As I wander the streets of 1851 London, my trusty leather rucksack fills up with mementos. Tonight, I’ve found a worn programme of 'La Vivandiere' that I'll keep safe, reminding me of this beautiful evening. In my dreams, I see those enchanting tutus and dance to those mesmerizing melodies.

Here's a little glimpse into the Ballet world on this particular date in history:

  • *Fanny Cerrito's ‘La Vivandiere’ at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane: * A show that has captured imaginations for decades. You can almost see those swirling gowns and delicate movements – even the men were swashbuckling and charming.
  • The impact of "La Vivandiere": The ballet world of 1851 is a beautiful thing, full of stories of dedication, love, and a strong commitment to art. "La Vivandiere" is just one of many ballet stories waiting to be uncovered, and, of course, enjoyed by any who come into contact with it. That’s how the Pink Tutu movement spreads!

Now, dear readers, my time here in 1851 is drawing to a close. It's time for me to climb on board Magic Meg, her sparkling mane shining under the Victorian moonlight. But the stories, my dears, the stories never end! And while the pink tutu trend hasn’t quite exploded here in 1851 yet, rest assured, my darling readers, it is an eventuality! Until next time, when we'll be discovering new adventures in time. Don’t forget to pop by the Pink Tutu Time Travel blog every month! Don’t forget my dearest readers, we don’t just travel through time; we create stories.

And oh, remember this - every single one of you is absolutely capable of donning a pink tutu and stepping into a world of magic, a world of joy and creativity. Why? Because you’re beautiful, unique, and have the potential to shine as brightly as Magic Meg's hooves in the night!
