Post #2335: A Whirlwind Through the Parisian Opera House!

Oh, darlings! I am positively giddy to share my adventures from July 7th, 1855! Magic Meg, my oh-so-fabulous pink sparkling shire horse, whisked me away to Paris for a day of absolute balletic bliss. Paris in the mid-19th century - what a treat for the senses! Cobblestones that sparkle under the Parisian sun, cafes brimming with chatter and laughter, and of course, the stunning grandeur of the Paris Opera House!

Just picturing those ornate balconies, shimmering chandeliers, and the velvety seats – just divine! The Opera House itself is a true masterpiece. Such exquisite architectural details – my pink tutu wouldn’t have looked out of place in this stunning setting, I tell you!

But let’s talk about the star of the show, the one and only: The Paris Opera Ballet!

This renowned company, boasting world-renowned ballerinas and talented gentlemen dancers, was the heart of Parisian dance. On July 7th, 1855, they were performing "Giselle," a ballet classic which is, of course, my favourite to perform myself! To be amongst such talented artists, to feel the energy of the audience, it’s a feeling that just can’t be replicated. I almost got a little teary-eyed when the beautiful Giselle, played by the utterly charming Mademoiselle Lucille Grahn, danced that iconic Act II death scene - truly mesmerising.

It's remarkable how much the dance world evolved even back then! I remember learning in my ballet classes at the Royal Ballet School back home in Derbyshire, that romantic ballet was the reigning style of the time. They were already innovating new techniques and choreography, paving the way for the magnificent artistry we see on stage today. And all of this on July 7th, 1855 – can you believe it?!

A Fashionista's Paradise!

Now, darling, we mustn't forget the incredible Parisian fashion scene! As a ballerina who absolutely lives for pink tutus and frills, it was like stepping into a wonderland. Lace, silk, ruffles, ribbons – a veritable feast for the eyes! It was utterly thrilling to witness the craftsmanship and detail poured into the fashion of the day. I actually managed to sneak a glimpse into the ateliers of a renowned Parisian couturier, and my oh-my-goodness, they were designing garments that were sheer works of art. I was truly mesmerised by the delicate embroidery and intricate patterns, a ballet of its own.

Speaking of which, I nabbed a beautiful silk scarf from a market stall as a memento. I can't wait to weave its delicate texture into a dance routine – the colour compliments my pink tutu perfectly! And naturally, I snagged a piece of the finest French silk to line my dance bag with - a perfect souvenir for my travel adventures, don’t you think?

A Moment of Serendipity

Now, what’s a journey without a dash of serendipity? While admiring a stunning display of fresh flowers outside a Parisian bakery, I found myself chatting with a charming florist. As it turns out, this lovely woman, a vibrant young soul named Celeste, was also a fervent ballet enthusiast.

We gossiped about our favourite ballets (I did have to hold back on telling her all about my time travel, of course!), the latest ballet trends, and the talent of Mademoiselle Grahn - it was as though I had known Celeste all my life! As she gifted me a beautiful bouquet of delicate pink lilies, I realised the perfect connection: pink lilies and pink tutus – utterly exquisite!

I’m telling you, there’s something absolutely magical about dancing, pink tutus, and time travel! Now I’m back at my little flat in Derbyshire, where I can hear Magic Meg munching on her supper of fresh carrots. She might have pink sparkling hooves, a white mane, and an adorable tail but her appetite is just as insatiable as any normal Shire horse. It's quite a feat keeping her well fed between all my adventures!

It’s now back to reality and back to rehearsals for my upcoming performance at the Derby Playhouse! I have been incorporating new choreography and my new pink lilies inspiration from Celeste, so I hope it goes well! I can't wait to share it with you all, dear readers!

Until next month, keep twirling!

Your eternally devoted,

Emma x
