Hello my darling ballet lovers!
Welcome back to my little corner of the internet, where dreams of tutus twirl and time travel adventures unfold! This month, we’re galloping through the centuries aboard my magnificent steed, Magic Meg – my pink, sparkling Shire horse with hooves of gold. We’re headed to the 11th of November, 1855!
Remember those gorgeous, frilly, layered tutus I’ve been raving about recently? Well, the 11th of November, 1855, saw the birth of a ballerina whose style would totally have inspired those fabulous looks. The magnificent, the majestic, the captivating… Carlotta Grisi! Born in Italy, she became a legend in the ballet world, touring everywhere from Paris to London, her grace and skill capturing the hearts of audiences worldwide.
Now, you all know how much I love a good theatrical experience, and I bet my sparkly, pink, pointed shoes Carlotta Grisi would have felt the same! She certainly did, bringing a vibrant mix of ballet and theatrical performance to the stage. And, believe me, she knew how to make an entrance! She was a true showwoman, a real diva of her time, dazzling audiences in London at the Royal Italian Opera. Her elegant and fluid movements were pure poetry!
Speaking of theatrical performances, 11th November 1855 saw the premiere of Faust – an iconic piece of musical theatre by Charles Gounod – at the Theatre Lyrique in Paris! Oh, can you imagine how exciting it must have been? The music, the drama, the costumes! You know I would have been in the front row, practically glued to the stage! I wouldn't be able to resist adding to my tutu collection a beautiful gown, maybe in shimmering black, to channel that dramatic mood, and of course, there’d be sparkles, plenty of them!
To celebrate Carlotta Grisi's birthday, we’re going to add a “Carlotta" spin to our ballet routine this month. Try spinning with the most magnificent leg extensions you can muster, all whilst gracefully raising your arms! Oh darling, just try it, you'll be a real ballerina!
Oh, and don’t forget your tutu, darlings! Remember, my mission is to bring tutus back to life – a pink cloud of sheer, elegant, sparkly happiness everywhere you go!
As always, my dears, keep your dancing shoes ready – because who knows where we'll travel next!
Your Tutu-Twirling Time Traveller,
Emma
