Hello my darlings! Emma here, your friendly neighbourhood pink tutu enthusiast and time-travelling ballerina! It's the 2nd of February, and I'm back with a brand new blog post, number 2354, brimming with delightful ballet adventures! (If you're new to the world of Pink-Tutu.com, don't forget to check out my previous posts - I promise, it's a pink-hued delight!)
This month, my magical steed, Meg, a majestic pink shire with golden hooves and a mane and tail like spun silk, has brought me to the enchanting year of 1857! It's an era steeped in elegance and grace, with captivating ballet stories waiting to be told.
The air hums with excitement today, as I arrive at the Grand Theatre de Bordeaux! Yes, darling, the most stunning opera house in France, resplendent with swirling staircases and chandeliers that glitter like a thousand stars. This, my lovelies, is the perfect setting for a ballet, and wouldn't you know it, I've come at the ideal time - tonight, the ballet 'Giselle' is being performed!
I must tell you, my darlings, 'Giselle' is a story about love, betrayal, and, of course, the ballet. The music, so sweet and yearning, washes over you, carrying you away to a world of fairies, princes, and sorrow. As I settle into my velvet seat, I feel the excitement thrumming through the room.
While I may not have my own pink tutu on this occasion, it's not for lack of trying, I promise! There was a bit of a logistical hitch. You see, when I arrived in 1857, Meg insisted on wearing her finest pink and white floral bonnet! How could I argue with such charm? And as for the people here in Bordeaux? Well, their attire is exquisite! I do feel rather underdressed, although my favourite pink bow, nestled perfectly between my curls, makes me feel as if I'm already part of the elegant crowd.
After the curtain falls, I make my way to the stage door to find the talented ballerina who stole the show. "Madame", I exclaim, my voice full of admiration, "your portrayal of Giselle was breathtaking! So full of emotion, such perfect balance! I am humbled!"
"Why, thank you, Mademoiselle!" replies a young woman with eyes that sparkled as brightly as her tutu. "I appreciate your praise. Do you love ballet, Mademoiselle?"
Oh, darling! Do I love ballet? My passion for the dance knows no bounds! "My love, dear lady, is as endless as the beautiful choreography of a balletic pas de deux! "
Of course, I couldn't leave without purchasing a souvenir! (And for all of you ballet lovers reading, I may have also snuck into the wardrobe room for a little peek at the costume details, darling.) I managed to score a stunning antique programme for my ballet-history collection, nestled snugly in my leather rucksack. I promise to post photos on the Pink Tutu blog for you later!
Now, my lovelies, the beauty of ballet knows no boundaries, not even those of time and space. And as for me? I'm off to see what further ballet treasures await in 1857! Perhaps a visit to a Parisian opera house? Perhaps a trip to Italy to admire the glorious works of Italian ballerina, Fanny Cerrito? The possibilities, as always, are limitless!
