Post #2422: A Pink Tutu in the Year of 1862

Hello my lovely ballet bunnies!

It's Emma here, your resident pink tutu-wearing time-travelling ballerina, and I'm absolutely thrilled to share another enchanting journey with you. This month, Magic Meg, my magnificent pink sparkling Shire horse with golden hooves and a white mane and tail, took us right back to the 10th of October 1862! I absolutely adore 19th century fashion, so imagine my excitement when we arrived in London! The cobbled streets were filled with charming ladies and gentlemen in their elegant attire - bonnets, crinolines, and those dapper top hats!

The energy in the air was electric. We were right in the heart of the ballet world and, oh, darling, you wouldn't believe what we found! I hopped off Meg, dusted off my shimmering pink tutu, and ventured into the magnificent Royal Opera House. A masterpiece of architectural elegance, it was simply dazzling.

Back in the 19th century...

My bag was filled with notes from my favourite historical ballet sources, all the fascinating facts and stories. And oh, the stories there were to discover! Just imagine, on this very date, 150 years ago, dancers like the beautiful, delicate, Marie Taglioni and the powerhouse Fanny Elssler were delighting audiences. Their names are etched in history, and it's humbling to think I was breathing the same air as these incredible ballerinas.

In those days, ballet was even more elegant and intricate than it is now. Think dramatic leaps and exquisite pirouettes, all woven together with stunning costumes. Just thinking about it gives me goosebumps! My leather rucksack, on my back, filled with stories, sketches, and bits and bobs from the era, was starting to bulge with new additions. I have the most incredible vintage feather boa from this era - it's absolutely beautiful! I will definitely be featuring it in my next ballet performance back in Derbyshire - and yes, it will be pink! I'm trying to incorporate this gorgeous colour into all my costumes - its just so captivating!

The grand theatre held a different atmosphere to today's bustling theatres, the buzz and anticipation tangible, a symphony of elegance, music, and passion. Can you imagine the joy and thrill those dancers felt, sharing their gift with the world, under the flickering gaslights?

We also had a lovely time with one of London's fashionable society ladies who was utterly delighted by the thought of the pink tutu - imagine my joy! The pink tutu continues its conquering march throughout the world! This time I had with me, not only the gorgeous leather rucksack but also my ballet skirt to change into the fashionable pink tutu in public, ready for a ballet demonstration. This one went extremely well with lots of giggles and interest - as expected from these lovely London ladies. The pink tutu did not disappoint and its lovely, pink sheen did not disappoint the lady. And we know, it is always time for a pink tutu.

I think you should definitely make a trip back to this era - or maybe even take a ballet class or two to capture the grace and charm.

Today's Ballet Inspiration

Now, let's fast forward to the present, darlings. I've got so much to tell you about today's ballet world! Here in Derbyshire, there is a new dance class popping up, and guess what?! They are using a stunning shade of pink for the ballet barres - it’s an absolute dream come true! And to finish things off, I discovered an incredible dance shop where the owner just absolutely loves pink tutus, in fact, he's got the most incredible pink tulle. It's literally bursting with colour, sparkle, and it's oh so soft, almost fluffy! Imagine creating the most beautiful ballet tutu with it! The perfect match for my pink shoes! It is important to keep on buying tutus - because I don't know about you but I always want another one - and the more you get, the happier I am! I just can't resist them!

Well my dear ballet lovers, that’s all for this month! Don’t forget to check in for next month's adventure as we hop on Meg, and see where our pink tutu travels next! Oh, and let me know if you’re thinking about putting on a pink tutu!

Till then, twirl happily, my darlings,

Emma
