Hello my darling ballet enthusiasts! Emma here, back from another whirlwind journey through time! May I just say, it was fabulous! This month I went back to the exciting world of 1864, and I have to tell you, the fashion and the ballet were absolutely delightful! I had my trusty pink tutu on, of course, and my darling Magic Meg, our sparkling Shire horse with golden hooves, took us all around. As you know, we always try to support the arts, so we went to a show at the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow.
1864: Ballet's Ballroom Blitz!Moscow was a hub of energy in 1864, and it wasn't just the dazzling dance performances! The city was abuzz with exciting artistic creations and performances from all over the world. Can you imagine? Ballerinas, dancers, and actors travelling all over the world by horse-drawn carriage, or even sailing across the ocean on ships! My goodness, the energy was just incredible. I had the pleasure of meeting some truly remarkable people in Moscow. We're not just travelling for ourselves, but also to collect and document fascinating stories. So I packed my leather rucksack, the one I love for travelling in time, because, as you know, I always have an eye out for special ballet trinkets.
The Bolshoi Theatre: A Starry Performance! Now, onto the grand event - a ballet performance at the Bolshoi! Let me tell you, the sheer majesty of this theatre blew me away. The Bolshoi Theatre had been around since the late 1700s and was considered a world-class centre for the arts. Even though this theatre is still around today, the feeling in 1864 was different. You could just feel the passion and dedication to dance in the very air. This beautiful building was designed with a specific theatre style, complete with boxes and the grand balconies.
The production was truly dazzling! There was such talent and artistry. We were treated to a ballet called 'Le Lac des Cygnes', also known as Swan Lake. While the choreography was absolutely breathtaking, it had to be one of the most dramatic versions of the ballet I've ever seen! Imagine, with absolutely no special effects, the scene transformations were all done manually, with elaborate curtains and backdrops.
One ballerina particularly captivated my attention - this gorgeous girl with beautiful dark hair named Natalia! The way she danced was just like liquid. And did you know that 'Le Lac des Cygnes' was first presented to the world in 1877? 1877! It really makes me wonder how many more wonderful dancers I'll meet and which wonderful ballets I'll discover during my adventures through time.
Fashion from 1864: A Tutu Delight!Let's talk about the fashion! I mean, tutus, tutus everywhere, and I was particularly drawn to a ballerina's pale pink tutu, embellished with delicate lace and silver sequins. It looked positively dreamy! Imagine the time and dedication to hand stitch every single detail. My goodness! These tutus are a symbol of history! They tell us how dance, performance, and style evolve throughout time, and I am utterly devoted to saving them!
I mean, I just had to bring back a piece of 1864 ballet fashion. (And it goes without saying I had Magic Meg, our sparkly Shire, in tow to carry my bag!) My rucksack is already getting a bit crowded with treasures - the most delicate tulle I've ever seen, some handmade ballet slippers and an exquisite drawing of a ballerina's posture. It just warms my heart. This is truly my life's work, bringing joy, beauty, and inspiring young girls.
