Hello lovelies! Emma here, back from another fabulous journey through time! I know, I know, it’s been a whole month since our last adventure! I can't believe how quickly time flies (even though I literally make it fly). 🤫
But this month, dear reader, has been utterly divine. Let me paint you a picture...
Imagine a blustery March day in Derbyshire, but instead of the rolling hills of today, a sprawling estate nestled among the rolling meadows, and a cobbled path leading to a grand manor. I, naturally, am clad in my most magnificent pink tutu (sparkling, of course!), my hair tied back in a perfect bun, and my beloved Magic Meg, my pink-sparkling Shire horse with hooves of purest gold, snorts impatiently. My trusty leather rucksack is packed with curiosity and excitement for this trip to 1866!
This month's date? The 3rd of March, of course! 🗓️
What a delightful world it is, this Victorian age! The fashion, my darlings! Oh, the fashion! I have filled my rucksack with lace collars and ruched bodices that could put even the grandest ballerina's dress to shame. Imagine, though, how exquisite the combination would be... the flowing skirts, the ruffles and lace... 🤯 Just thinking about it makes me twirl in place.
Now, you may be asking, what exactly was going on in the world of ballet on the 3rd of March, 1866? Well, allow me to fill you in! ✨
The ballet world was absolutely abuzz, with premieres happening in major cities like Paris and London. In London, Covent Garden was hosting a sensational performance of Faust, which is a bit dramatic for my taste, darling, but everyone’s raving about it. And guess what? The main dancer is none other than the beautiful Fanny Cerito! Isn't it simply magical? Imagine having a career at the age of 14 and making waves across Europe! Such talent!
My little ballerina heart was, of course, filled with joy to experience the excitement in London. While the world was gripped by this "dark and brooding" story of Faust, my attention was completely focused on the magnificent ballet costumes! The vibrant fabrics and exquisite detailing are utterly breathtaking. My sketchbook is overflowing with new ideas - this journey is already a goldmine of inspiration!
And let’s not forget Paris! It was a symphony of elegance, even back then. The Parisian ballet was filled with the most exquisite ballerinas wearing the most magnificent tutus. One must simply witness such exquisite performances for oneself. Imagine - graceful leaps, delicate poses, a whirlwind of pink fabric! (I imagine they were even more beautiful when done by the French, you know? Très chic.)
Speaking of France, a delightful story emerged during my travels. Apparently, the renowned Mademoiselle Rigl was taking a break from her rigorous training at the ballet school. And this is what made my heart jump for joy. Apparently, Rigl was the most delighted to wear a beautiful pink satin tutu with delicate pearl beading. It made my inner ballet heart completely flutter with delight! I, for one, can certainly relate to the need for a delightful outfit to put us in the right mood, wouldn't you say?
Naturally, my pink tutu felt incredibly stylish in this enchanting world of long flowing dresses and tight corsets! After all, I’m all about spreading the love of tutus. Think of it - the beautiful color, the graceful twirling… Who can say no to a splendid pink tutu? It’s an absolute delight for anyone, no matter the era! 💕
But, my lovely readers, I must dash! The lure of historical costumes and magnificent ballet tales calls! My rucksack awaits more precious memories and fascinating snippets of ballet history - each piece a tiny gem in a vast tapestry of stories and dance.
Until next month, darlings! Do keep twirling, keep sparkling, and may your own tutus (especially if they are pink!) bring you joy!
Love,
Emma
