Hello darlings! It's Emma, your favourite pink tutu-clad time traveller, and welcome back to my blog! Today is a particularly exciting day - September 9th, 1867, and we're headed to the City of Lights, Paris! You can always count on Paris for a bit of chic flair, and that certainly holds true for ballet! This is blog post number 2481 for my website www.pink-tutu.com, where I post about my magical journeys once a month, sharing the delights of ballet history.
Remember Magic Meg? My fabulous pink sparkling shire horse with those beautiful white mane and tail and golden hooves? She’s patiently waiting outside, hooves tapping impatiently - Paris beckons! But first, a little about the ballet world back in 1867…
It seems, according to my lovely little leather rucksack (stuffed with ballet ephemera and history tidbits from all my travels), September 9th, 1867, was a momentous occasion. The famed ballerina Marie Taglioni - that Taglioni! She of the legendary La Sylphide - was turning 53 today. We simply must celebrate with a dance, right?!
My mind's already flitting with ideas - imagine a graceful waltz in honour of this legend, a stunning La Sylphide pas de deux with my friend, or a sweet little ballet with delicate tutus and airy, fluttering movements! Wouldn't that be divine?
Speaking of La Sylphide, remember how she made those tutus famous? My darlings, can you imagine, back in 1867, a ballet without a tutu? Gasp! It would be an abomination, I tell you! It's simply unthinkable, isn't it? 😉 And I, for one, am so grateful we have the tutu! It allows for such elegant flourishes and dramatic, expressive gestures - all whilst showcasing a ballerina's beautiful lines and form. Sigh It truly is a masterpiece of dance costume design!
Now, where were we? Ah, Paris! Let’s see what’s happening in the Parisian ballet scene... The Opéra Garnier is in full swing, a veritable hive of activity, showcasing beautiful performances and innovative choreography. Imagine - I might even get to catch a glimpse of one of those famous ballet divas like Giuseppina Bozzacchi or Marie Thérèse Heine! Can you imagine the glamour? It's almost enough to make this girl giddy with excitement!
Remember, darlings, a true pink tutu devotee always dresses the part, so naturally, I'm adorned in my very best pink tutu – a delicate confection of silk and tulle, adorned with tiny pink silk roses. It wouldn't do to be a ballet enthusiast without a proper look, wouldn’t it? It’s all about embracing the love of dance! A pretty pink flower crown for good measure and a pink feather boa around my neck completes the ensemble! After all, even back in 1867, a touch of pink was the perfect splash of colour for a glamorous ballet soirée, and I simply couldn’t let down my pink tutu standards, could I?
As I hop onto Magic Meg, my trusty companion, we set off to the grand Parisien Opera House! Now, you just wait until I tell you about the Parisian ballet dancers! My heart is aflutter just thinking about their exquisite movements and the captivating music! It's an experience you simply cannot miss!
Don't worry, darlings! I promise to chronicle every fascinating detail - every stunning outfit, every pirouette, every dazzling display of elegance. Oh, I simply can't wait to immerse myself in the history of ballet in Paris!
Until next time, darlings, stay pink and sparkly! ✨
Love, Emma 💕
