Post Number 2528: Dancing Through the Decades with Emma and Meg - 1871, August 8th!

Hello darlings, and welcome back to Pink-Tutu.com! I'm your trusty time-travelling ballerina, Emma, and I’m back for another enchanting jaunt through history! August 8th 1871 – a truly magnificent date – let’s waltz through this lovely historical period! As you all know, the pinkest time-travelling steed in existence, Magic Meg, and I have been exploring ballet's fabulous history, and oh my, are we having a ball! Today, Meg is snorting a little impatiently, and I'm sure she's eager to get us to the grandest dancehall in Europe (hopefully with some lovely treats along the way for the best shire horse ever, bless her hooves)!

So, on August 8th 1871, what's happening in the world of dance? Oh, my dears, it's a bustling scene of talent and refinement! Let's see…

London's Grand Opera House: I just love the pomp and grandeur of Victorian England! There is so much going on in the theatres - this is a time of such rich culture and beauty. The Grand Opera House is showcasing a classic, “The Bohemian Girl”, a fabulous, and very popular opera composed by Michael William Balfe. Imagine, my dears! I am longing for the grand opulence and lush décor!

Paris: Ballet Theatre's Star: I am off to Paris shortly - such an extraordinary place for ballet. It’s a whirlwind of beauty and romance. The enchanting Madame Marie Taglioni - yes, that dazzling Taglioni! - was the leading ballerina of the day. Imagine, a real Prima Ballerina. Her performances at the Théâtre du Châtelet are utterly mesmerising. Did I mention I have a fabulous pink tutu especially for Paris? A silk number with a dazzling diamanté sash – quite fabulous indeed! Meg agrees.

Dancing Across Europe: Speaking of ballerinas, do you all know how ballet, as we know it, travelled from Italy across Europe? It was an explosion of excitement and refinement. Imagine, graceful ballerinas gracing the stages, showing off beautifully executed movements with their elegant, long tutus – pure perfection, darling! I am so very proud to be part of such an incredible journey and history.

My Time Traveller's Collections: Oh my! Look at all the lovely goodies in my rucksack – I am so excited, dear! An intricate miniature of a ballerina on the Covent Garden Opera House stage! So delicate! The intricate embroidery patterns for the ballet shoes - I adore a bit of needlepoint, my dears - and a vintage poster featuring Taglioni. Absolutely exquisite, oh my! There are so many more little trinkets and ballet stories that Meg and I collect as we travel the timeline, adding to my vintage collection at home in Derbyshire. The vintage pieces truly are treasures!

Ballet Through The Ages: Do you remember what I told you in previous blogs? In ballet, the costumes were all about flowing fabrics and delicate decorations, a little more relaxed than the rigid gowns and corsets worn by ladies in the Victorian Era! That was perfect for the ballerinas to really move with such grace and poise as they performed! So, our world today has seen huge leaps for ladies - how fortunate that today we can embrace those incredible styles while dancing. But today’s ballet and costumes have been a slow burn of progress – a blend of beauty and elegance! Oh my, we have come a long way since that time period, and what I would love more than anything, my darlings, is to see all the incredible, stylish women out there wishing they wore a pink tutu everyday - just as I do!

Now, Meg is making a rather insistent noise – I think she is ready to take us for a little jaunt, and I'm already putting on my latest sparkly pink tutu. I'll share more of our amazing adventures with you next month. Don’t forget, ladies, life is best danced through, and always, ALWAYS in a tutu, don't you agree? Until next time, don't forget to visit the Pink Tutu Blog at www.pink-tutu.com for all the latest news on time-travel fashion. Until then!

Xoxo, Emma
