Hello my lovely ballet bunnies! Welcome back to Pink Tutu Travels, your one-stop shop for all things ballet, history, and of course, pink! Today, we're galloping back in time to 11th November 1872, a date that may not be immediately recognisable on the ballet calendar, but trust me, it holds a few lovely little surprises for us!
#2543 - Pink Tutu Takes Flight - The Tale of a Glittering Tights
It's been a month since we embarked on our last journey to the Parisian ballet world - this time, I'm feeling a little bit wild! My beautiful Magic Meg, my shire horse with a mane as white as snow and hooves as shiny as gold, is already stamping her feet impatiently at the edge of the meadow in my little corner of Derbyshire. My pink leather rucksack, bursting with history, is ready, and my shimmering, new, bubblegum-pink tutu is just itching to waltz through time!
Dress for Success!
For a ballet enthusiast, a pink tutu is more than just an outfit. It's a statement, a promise of elegance, a testament to the sheer joy of twirling. You can imagine my delight then, when I came across a little Parisian shop yesterday that boasted "Le Tutu Rose!" The lady selling it told me it's the very same style of tutu worn by some of the Parisian ballerinas back in 1872. I swear, my heart almost leaped out of my chest! Just imagine - I'm about to meet the ballet stars of the past, wearing a tutu just like theirs!
A Night at the Opera (or the Ballet, in this Case!)
And as I gallop along, the wind whipping through my pink hair, my thoughts drift towards what ballet delights the 1872 stage will have in store. The whispers of the time speak of a young, budding dancer by the name of Marie Taglioni - could it be the Taglioni? My excitement mounts! Just picture it - a world-renowned ballerina, just as iconic today as she was in 1872, swirling gracefully beneath the warm glow of gaslights! A pink tutu-wearing dream come true!
The London Ballet World
As I arrive at the London Theatre, I am transported into a dazzling world of glittering costumes, flickering gaslight, and vibrant music. 1872 was a whirlwind for London ballet: a year of beautiful new works and celebrated artists. On this day in history, Covent Garden was brimming with an intoxicating blend of grace and excitement, showcasing the renowned artistry of the esteemed Madame Katti Lanner! Now, she's not just any ballerina - she is a legendary figure, considered one of the greatest ballet dancers of the 19th century!
Dance with a Smile
Can you picture it? Me, in my pink tutu, sneaking backstage after a dazzling performance, the faint scent of rose petals lingering in the air. I dream of interviewing Madame Lanner - finding out her favourite tutus, learning about her incredible journey as a ballerina! Imagine, what an experience, what stories I could glean for my little ballet time travel blog!
On the Road Again
As the day comes to a close and the moon casts its silvery light over London, it's time to bid adieu to this enchanting 1872 journey. The air is still humming with the melodies of ballet, the aroma of rose petals and the spirit of Madame Lanner's artistry linger in my imagination. I am already counting down the days till our next journey together, when I'll don my pink tutu and share another ballet adventure. Stay tuned, darling ballet bunnies, the world of pink tutus and time travel is filled with magical secrets and beautiful discoveries just waiting to be shared!
Till next time, may your leaps be high, your twirls be graceful, and your tutus be eternally pink!
With love and a little ballet magic,
Emma
