Post 2568: A December Dazzler - The World of Ballet in 1874

Hello lovelies! Welcome to another exciting entry in my Pink Tutu Time Travels blog. This month we're whizzing back to December 12th, 1874, a day full of delights for any ballet enthusiast! And let me tell you, even Magic Meg is looking extra sparkly with all the glitter from this period!

Now, as a true balletomane, my first stop was always going to be a grand theatre - I mean, who can resist the charm of a Victorian playhouse? This December, the theatres of the world were ablaze with talented ballerinas, all decked out in glorious tutus, some even shimmering with that divine, opulent sparkle we adore so much. And oh, how those tutus were truly extravagant! Imagine yards upon yards of tulle, crafted to create cascading dreams of romanticism, a visual feast for the eyes, if you will. It was just the thing to give any theatre performance that certain je ne sais quoi.

The world's ballerinas were on the move this December, with an international lineup that had me yearning for a time travel whirlwind tour. We had Madame Virginia Zucchi, an Italian ballerina making her mark in London. You've got to admire those ladies who could conquer the world stage! And over in Paris, it was all about Madame Thérésine, a shining star in the ballet scene. It's remarkable how these dancers effortlessly embraced their unique styles and grace the stage with such power and charm.

Speaking of charm, my rucksack is bursting at the seams with a whole trove of beautiful fashion items from this era. Just think - ribbons galore, exquisitely embroidered silk costumes and the most exquisite pearl adornments! The intricate artistry of the times truly blows my mind! The entire experience is a whirlwind of colours and creativity, each detail bursting with an almost indescribable elegance.

But the world of ballet wasn't limited to the grand theatres. I love watching ballets in all sorts of places, and December 1874 certainly delivered! From the bustling streets to the heart of every ballroom, dancing was the language of the day, and every twirl was a silent conversation in grace. In Derbyshire, back in my own time, ballet lessons are a part of life. Just picture it - girls in frilly tutus learning every pirouette and grand jeté under the expert eyes of our ballet teachers, just like back in 1874!

As always, it's not just about the ballet - it's also about the people! Today I'm filled with a deep respect for the ballerinas and ballet masters of this time. Their dedication to the art form is truly inspirational.

While I haven't stumbled upon a magical time travelling pink tutu shop yet (oh, to dream!), I did find the most divine book at a little bookstall in the heart of London - it's a collection of ballet dance notations. Talk about a treasure! Imagine all those wonderful, intricately choreographed movements preserved in that magical book! The stories within its pages just whisper the tales of dancers and their dedication.

For you fellow ballet aficionados, I leave you with this: Remember, every ballerina is a story waiting to be told, every pirouette a dance with time itself. Don't just admire from the sidelines – embrace the joy, embrace the passion, and maybe even, dare I say it, embrace a pink tutu for yourself. Because after all, a little pink never hurt anyone, and as for Magic Meg and I, we’re already on our way to our next time travelling adventure! Until next month, lovelies!

Pink Tutu Time Travel Tip:

Remember, while your everyday style might be a bit different, don't underestimate the power of adding a touch of pink to your own ballet looks! And who knows, maybe even Magic Meg might be inspired by your pink tutu style choices and gallop into your heart as a lifelong friend!

And a final shout-out to my favourite place to browse all things pink: www.pink-tutu.com

Until next time!

Love, Emma xx
