Hello darlings! It's Emma here, your very own pink tutu time travelling ballerina! It's the 3rd of March, 1892, and Magic Meg and I are galloping into the past, with my trusty leather rucksack ready to collect another ballet-filled memory! As always, www.pink-tutu.com is where I share my monthly adventures with all of you, so pop the kettle on, grab your favourite pink treat and let's take a magical journey back in time!
This month, the ballet world is absolutely buzzing! There's such an excitement in the air, almost as electrifying as the feeling you get before the curtain rises for your favourite show! The year is young and ballet is already proving to be quite the fashionista, but hold on, dear readers, for the biggest treat! Let me tell you, we are living for the fabulous fashion this year - 1892, oh, you are simply divine!
We find ourselves in a lovely little village just outside London. I do love the countryside, don't you? So peaceful, the smell of freshly churned butter just floats through the air, delightful! Now, my dearest, pink tutu-wearing readers, do tell, are you loving my new tutu? I found it nestled in a shop just outside the village – oh my, isn’t it simply adorable? All the ruffles, and it is a gorgeous shade of pink, just a hint of shimmer, you know how I like a little sparkle!
But let's not get caught up in our own fashion dreams just yet! We have a world of ballet to explore, and what a wonderful time it is! You see, 1892 marks the very beginning of the Imperial Russian Ballet! Now, darling, you can't imagine how much history was made in Russia that year. And it all started in St. Petersburg, oh my, what a wonderful city! Can you just imagine twirling in the splendour of the Imperial Theatres? Whispers Perhaps Magic Meg and I can pay a visit in a future journey!
Meanwhile, back in our peaceful village, we're going to indulge in a spot of ballet history – it wouldn't be a time travelling adventure without some ballet talk! So what was going on in the world of ballet on this day back in 1892?
The lovely Russian ballerina, Anna Pavlova, a true star, is a mere 8 years old at the moment, already proving to be quite a talent, and her beautiful dance, The Dying Swan, which is to capture the hearts of the entire world, is still years in the making! But just wait until you see her twirl. You’ll feel as though you’re flying too, darling, it’s just so very magical.
Now, this month also marks the very beginning of the career of a young Russian dancer named Vaslav Nijinsky. He will become one of the most exciting, daring dancers the world will ever see. This gentleman is so revolutionary, so groundbreaking, that I think even I, your very own time travelling ballerina, will feel inspired to try something a little out of my comfort zone. What an absolute thrill!
Oh my goodness, we simply must talk about Isadora Duncan. Can you believe it, this remarkable lady, she is actually already making quite the name for herself! Now, I adore the ballet world, I simply adore it, but let's admit, it's all a bit structured, isn't it? This lovely lady, well she is shaking things up with a bold new form of dance. It’s called free dance and my, oh, my, I’m quite smitten with it! Just the thought of dancing with abandon, inspired by the movements of nature, the ocean, and all things beautiful, it’s simply divine!
My rucksack is starting to feel quite full, already, brimming with beautiful stories, inspiring tales, and just a few new ideas for my future performances! Oh darling, don't think for a minute I’m not always working on my dance routine, I have the whole pink tutu gang to inspire, don't you worry!
As we ride on towards home, with the sun setting, painting the sky with beautiful pink tones – just like my tutu, of course – I’m filled with such an overwhelming sense of joy. Just imagine all the amazing stories yet to be uncovered, all the adventures still awaiting! Who knows what magic we will find on our next time travelling adventure?
Join me next month for more pink-tutu inspired adventures on www.pink-tutu.com and until then, darling, be bold, be bright, and don’t forget your pink tutu.
Love, Emma 💖🩰
