Hello, my darling ballet devotees! Welcome back to Pink-Tutu.com, where history takes centre stage with a dash of glitter and a whole lotta pink! It's your girl Emma, back from another dazzling time travel escapade! And, oh my, this trip was a whirlwind of beautiful ballet and magnificent discoveries. Buckle up, lovelies, because this one's going to be a real twirl!
This month, we're skipping back to November 11th, 1892, a date bursting with excitement in the world of dance. Now, you all know I adore my pink tutus, and wouldn't you know it, 1892 was a time of phenomenal fashion in ballet! Imagine, darling, tutus with extravagant ruffles, layers upon layers of tulle, all in the most delicate shades of blush and pastel pink! Honestly, my heart skipped a beat the moment I landed!
Magic Meg, my trusty pink-sparkling shire horse with those golden hooves and flowing mane and tail, brought us straight to the Imperial Ballet in St Petersburg, Russia. They were about to showcase the brand new production of Tchaikovsky's The Nutcracker - talk about a thrilling event!
Oh, darling, you simply wouldn't believe the majesty! I felt like I'd stepped straight into a fairytale, the grand theatre was brimming with excitement, and the stage was adorned with magnificent sets. And the ballet itself? Simply exquisite. I found myself completely lost in the enchanting story, watching the graceful ballerinas and dapper gentlemen execute those breathtaking leaps and twirls with such effortless beauty. And did I mention the costumes?! Delicate, flowing skirts, sparkly bodices, and the most darling little tiaras - perfect for capturing my time travel photos!
But this wasn't all, dear readers! My quest for all things pink and ballet took me to the Théâtre de l'Opéra de Paris, France. At that very moment, the renowned prima ballerina La Belle Otero was enchanting audiences with her mesmerizing performance. This woman, darling, was the ultimate trendsetter. She wore shimmering dresses, stunning headdresses, and yes, you guessed it, even a pink tutu that could have given mine a run for its money! Her performance was the epitome of glamour and sophistication, and my rucksack is now bursting with notes about her life and style, not to mention those divine photographs!
Speaking of the Théâtre de l'Opéra, you all know I love me some ballet history, so naturally, I took a little detour to check out the Paris Opera Ballet. Now, 1892 was an incredible time for the company. Their new director, Léon Carvalho, was taking the ballet world by storm! He was known for his brilliant innovations, for introducing contemporary works into the classical repertoire, and, dare I say it, for making ballet more, dare I say, 'fun'? And, let me tell you, with his guidance, the Paris Opera Ballet was thriving, it was a real melting pot of style, passion, and innovative spirit!
This adventure left me, as always, bursting with inspiration. My pink-tutu wearing heart couldn't have asked for a more fulfilling journey. From the grand stages of St. Petersburg to the chicest of Parisian theatres, 1892 was brimming with ballet's incredible legacy. I cannot wait to share my photos and findings in my next pink-tutu.com post!
Until then, darling, don't forget to keep twirling, dreaming big, and most importantly, wearing your pink tutus! And, do make sure to visit www.pink-tutu.com, you won't be disappointed!
Lots of love,
Emma xx
