Post Number 2803: A 19th Century Ballet Soiree - Let’s Get Pinky! 🩰

Hello lovelies! Welcome back to my little corner of the internet, dedicated to all things ballet, time travel, and oh yes, that glorious shade of pink. It’s Emma here, and today, we’re taking a trip back to the shimmering, glamorous world of ballet in 1894. Grab your trusty pink tutu, darling, and saddle up with me – we’re off on a magical journey!

This month, I’m galloping back to July 7th, 1894. As always, I’m packing my trusty leather rucksack, ready to collect some fabulous ballet memorabilia, whispers of history, and a whole lot of pink inspiration. Let's dive into this fascinating date!

Parisian Panache and The Russian Ballet

Our time machine takes us to the beautiful city of Paris – ah, Paris! Home to breathtaking ballet! Today’s date holds a delightful dance with history, dear readers. It's the premiere of the magnificent "La Vivandière", a ballet that embodies all that is classic, passionate and just a touch flamboyant!

I can just imagine myself gliding across the Parisian stage, in my perfectly-pink tutu, with every pirouette a whisper of history. I’ve been researching, and "La Vivandière" features such spectacular and dramatic choreography, with a beautiful storyline that unfolds with every grand jeté. This masterpiece, with its beautiful story about the trials and triumphs of a young girl who dreams of becoming a dancer, was set to an exquisite score that really sets your heart soaring. Can you imagine how dazzling this must have been back in 1894, when it was the height of fashionable theatre? Oh, to be a part of such elegance!

And hold your horses, lovelies! I have a little extra treat for you today! The date also marked the inauguration of the Ballet Impérial company of Saint Petersburg. Talk about star-studded – this new ballet company included a line-up of absolutely magnificent talent, all with an unwavering passion for the art of dance. It was a magical moment in time, seeing this new company blossom in such a thriving cultural hub. Now, wouldn’t that make a story for your diary? I bet the performances were truly spectacular, a showcase of graceful movements, leaps that made your heart skip a beat, and emotions that captivated audiences – ah, I wish I could have been there!

Ballet Fashion – What the World Was Wearing

You all know my love for fashion runs deep, and the era of 1894 was no exception! Ballet was still under the spell of Romantic era aesthetics, but with a definite touch of fin de siècle extravagance. I bet the stage costumes were truly opulent! My pink tutu, oh yes, it would be a delight amidst those flowing, layered tulle tutus – think pastel colours, lace embellishments, ribbons cascading with a hint of shimmer, and a hint of romance with a dash of glamour.

Fashionable ballet footwear was also something quite special. Remember the satin shoes? The artistry was in the simplicity, yet the precision with which those pointe shoes were created! This time period also brought in ballet slippers with a slightly more rounded toe box, offering a bit more support for the dancers. I would have been overjoyed with the colour of them - the most exquisite shades of pastels, of course.

And how about those ladies on stage – did they ever look absolutely stunning! There’s a hint of history’s charm to ballet attire that still inspires modern styles, and what could be better than getting that inspiration and adding our own unique, pink flair? Let's keep the inspiration going!

Time Travelling Treasures - Pink for My Backpack

Remember my beloved leather rucksack? Well, this is what we’re adding to its collection this month!

  • A small vintage French book about "La Vivandière". Just a snippet from the premiere. Oh, I adore the detail in old playbills and brochures.
  • An intricate ballerina brooch, the delicate floral designs would look beautiful sewn onto a vintage velvet tutu, perhaps with some blush pink embellishment. A beautiful nod to a beautiful period!
  • A piece of vintage tulle from a Russian ballet costume, which I’ll be weaving into a pink-and-silver ribbon with beads for my hair! I love using vintage fabric - such character, such a story to tell.
  • And just to make my pink tutu dreams come true, a shimmering silk ribbon from the Ballet Impérial, a piece of ballet history. It will be so beautiful as a decoration on my little desk when I'm crafting!

Oh my darling readers, that was one heck of a journey into ballet history. From Paris to Russia, and back to the glorious era of romanticism! Don't forget to follow along with me at www.pink-tutu.com - your dose of ballet, pink, and a sprinkle of magical time-travel each month. Remember, you don't have to be a dancer, darling, to embrace a pink tutu – and never let the magic of ballet, and all its history, slip away! I'm off to sew some glitter, dance to some classic tunes and dream of ballet. See you next month for our next adventure!

XOXO, Emma 💕
