Hello lovelies,
Welcome back to my blog, Pink Tutu Time Travel! September is truly a month of magical enchantment. Just ask my sparkling shire horse, Magic Meg - we’ve been gallivanting through the annals of time, discovering extraordinary tales of tutus and toe shoes!
This month, we trotted our way back to September 9th, 1895, a date that practically bursts with ballet brilliance!
My darling Magic Meg, resplendent in her pink satin halter (and oh, does it sparkle!), snorted and pranced us to Vienna, a city known for its elegance and sophistication. The Viennese were just a bit ahead of their time in terms of ballet, embracing both the classical ballet and contemporary dance styles that were burgeoning at the time. You know me, a big fan of diversity in all things ballet!
Now, imagine a grand ball at the Hofburg Palace (the imperial residence in Vienna), an evening full of glamour, waltzing, and yes, ballet! This date, the Viennese Imperial Ballet graced the stage. The energy in the air was electric. Everyone, from the grand duke to the servants, was buzzing with anticipation. And as the orchestra played the opening notes, I practically burst out of my skin with excitement!
You’ll never believe what I learned about this special ballet event!
The renowned prima ballerina, Mathilde Kschessinska - say it with me, Mah-tilde Ksh-es-in-ska - was dancing in one of the most talked about ballets, * Le Corsaire. * It tells a dramatic and somewhat tragic story of a beautiful female captive rescued from the Sultan of Turkey.
But you see, Mathilda's story was no less dramatic.
She was considered an iconic figure in the history of ballet, adored by both royalty and the common man. But she had her share of scandals, being the love interest of none other than Grand Duke Andrei Alexandrovich Romanov. Talk about romance!
You know me, I can't help but wonder what it was like to witness these performances! Imagine the beauty of the costumes and the majesty of the steps, the atmosphere - oh, it simply takes my breath away! I was completely immersed in this world of grace and drama. I even added a few more beautiful designs and sketches to my collection!
In 1895, a strong sense of change was felt in the ballet world. This was a period of revolution and exploration for dancers. But something always stays the same, and that is the beautiful connection and emotions that ballet can convey.
Here is my take-away from this fantastic ballet experience:
Embrace your unique style and creativity, lovelies! Just like the beautiful Mathilda, never be afraid to embrace your individuality. And remember, when in doubt, put on your pink tutu - you’ll never be wrong in a tutu.
Of course, I didn’t leave Vienna without buying myself a few exquisite dance items: a beautiful set of pink opera gloves with delicate embroidery and a stunning silk shawl that will look amazing with my upcoming performances! (Yes, I still manage to find time to dance - one simply cannot have too much ballet!)
What exciting events will the next month bring? Only Magic Meg and my time travel diary know...but one thing is for sure, it’s going to be a dazzling journey!
Until next time,
Your ever-so-enchanting Emma
